$105,000 to $110,000 Annual Short Term Incentive Program Bonus eligibility

Overview

The Negotiator II, Energy will support the development and drive execution of Energy sourcing strategies to leverage suppliers and associated spend, achieve year-over-year savings, develop effective processes for supplier relationship management and deliver value across Summit Materials businesses. Additionally, the Negotiator II, Energy will lead cost-reduction initiatives specifically related to the procurement of diesel, natural gas, and energy supply.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the Energy Managers/Directors in the development, analysis, and execution of sourcing strategies to support operating companies in reducing the total cost of ownership.
  • Act as a key contributor responsible for the annual total cost reduction, process improvement, and improved commercial terms that enable Summit’s growth objectives.
  • Utilize quantitative skills to analyze, validate, and manage large amounts of data, specific to problem-solving, project and decision support, and trend analysis of multi-projects.
  • Analyst energy spend, market conditions and trends, identify/define key category cost drivers to recommend modifications to Energy strategy.
  • Manage a fixed forward purchase program for natural gas and diesel.
  • Support and assist the execution of the Summit Strategic Sourcing process: development of baseline, supplier evaluation, requests for proposal (RFx), negotiations, contract execution, development of implementation plan, savings metrics, and supplier management.
  • Perform spot purchases and accounts balancing for diesel and natural gas.
  • Procurement of coal and petroleum coke (petcoke) and development of supply agreements.
  • Development of electricity supply agreements and performance of regulated rates optimization assessments.
  • Use strong teamwork and cross-functional skills to implement effective decision-making techniques and processing regarding bidding and sourcing activities.
  • Monitor suppliers’ adherence to contractual terms throughout the relationship.
  • Consult with stakeholders for resolving performance issues and continuous development processes.
  • Work with supply base to ensure that all suppliers are continually vetted and reviewed, implementing new suppliers as needed on both a regional and national level.
  • Complete business travel to responsibility areas twice per month.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in manufacturing and/or operations environments.
  • Solid foundations of electricity, diesel, energy supply, and risk management.
  • Experience with spot purchases, procurement, and supply agreements for natural gas, diesel, coal, and petcoke.
  • Strong computer skills and data management, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Coupa, SAP, and e-sourcing tools a plus.
  • Strong analytical, negation, contracting, and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel once or twice per month.


Physical Requirements:

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including, but not limited to, telephone, copier, computer, keyboard, fax machine, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
