  • Drive Activities bus - Must be 25 years and older (Insurance regulations)

Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Activities, conducts activities for all residents. Leads both small and large groups in social settings. Provides leadership and social interaction to engage residents. Participates in engaging residents in 1:1 activities to increase socialization for those unable to attend group activities. Provides transportation to activities in the community.

Essential Functions: 1. Assists with the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of varying levels of activities for the residents. Records resident attendance.

  • Conducts one-on-one activity therapy to offer sensory stimulation to the residents and prepares written records of those visits.
  • Assists with inviting and communicating activity programs to the residents daily. Ensures their arrival at specific activities.
  • Assists in ordering or purchasing supplies for activities. Maintains inventory levels for supplies and purchases materials when necessary.
  • Assists with or initiates decorating the Dining Room and other areas for theme-related activities.
  • Initiates and participates in Volunteer Recruitment, interviewing, processing, scheduling, and supervising Volunteers.
  • Performs other duties as required and numerous daily operational responsibilities.

Education: Core curriculum for a high school diploma or GED. Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college. Two years of previous activity programmatic experience, preferably in assisted living and nursing home environments. NCCAP certification is a plus. If not certified, the incumbent must be willing to start the application for that certification and or complete the State-approved 36-hour activity course within one year of employment.

Job Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable and follow Resident’s Rights as provided to all new employees. Good knowledge of the policies and procedures set forth by the Department of Social Services for Assisted Living and Long-Term Care facilities. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and organize work efficiently. Ability to motivate people and be sensitive to their needs. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with team members, residents, and staff. Skill in providing support in the planning, coordinating, and implementing an activities program to meet the diverse needs of the residents who reside here. Understanding and awareness of the challenges of aging. Knowledge of the computer and basic skills needed to use search engines, Word, and Excel programs. Must be a licensed driver in Virginia with a clean driving record. Will be trained and expected to drive both the company van and the bus for scheduled activities and special transportation needs—current CPR certification.

Standards: The candidate must have a genuine interest in the elderly, patience, and tact. He or she must also be interested in learning and advancement and able to work congenially with others. The candidate must respect the principles of resident rights, confidentiality, EEO, and ADA. The candidate must also show evidence of a clean driving record annually.
