Role: Head of Axis Logistics

Axis Logistics is the in-house logistics division of the Prax Group of companies, a British multinational, independent exploration and production, refining, storage, distribution and sales conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and bio-fuels, headquartered in London, with a complete integration across the oil value chain, from upstream to downstream.


Axis Logistics moves product by road, rail, ship and pipeline. Efficiency and reliability are the cornerstones of our business, ensuring smooth service and seamless supply to our customers.


We are now recruiting for a Head Of Axis Logistics.


This role will have an overall responsibility for all Axis Logistics activity, including financial performance, budget setting and management, operational performance, customer service, industrial relations, HSEQ, road transport and oil sector compliance and delivering continuous improvements in all aspects of the business both for Axis Logistics and the wider Prax Group.


Principal Responsibilities


  • Have overall responsibility for financial performance and budgets.
  • Attend monthly, quarterly and annual financial review meetings with the members of the board of directors.
  • Ensure adherence to the Prax Group’s PEAR HSEQ policy at all levels of the business.
  • Promote continuous improvement in compliance to all road transport legislation and the undertakings of the Operator’s Licenses.
  • Motivate and develop team members to equip them with the skills to lead and manage their teams
  • Achieve efficiency through managing planning & controlling staff, on an ongoing basis through objectives
  • Ensuring key performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved, including compliance, service and financial targets
  • Continue to build positive relationships with key stake holders and develop a constructive relationship with relevant trade unions.
  • Manage relationships with various suppliers including external transport providers and service and maintenance contractors.


Person Specification


  • 5 years transport management experience in a multi-site environment
  • Good working knowledge of the fuel distribution sector
  • An effective communicator at all levels with the personal motivation and confidence to have a positive impact throughout the group
  • Significant experience of developing management teams within a similar logistics operation would be desirable
  • Professional, approachable and helpful to ensure smooth running of the general operation
  • Confident Manager, skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team to achieve them
  • Highly tolerant of change, being able to work with an evolving organisation
  • Able to thrive in a highly competitive and demanding environment
  • Able to work efficiently across the business and functional boundaries
  • Commercially focussed
  • Quality orientated and customer service driven
  • National/International CPC holder (Essential)
  • Proven experience of succeeding in a Unionised environment.
