An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, motivated, and well organised midwife to join the maternity team at UHNM. The post holder will be responsible for a busy maternity outpatients department based at Royal Stoke and also a smaller antenatal clinic based at County Hospital. As such the post holder will be expected to work between our two sites to provide visible leadership.

A busy fetal medicine department is located within the antenatal clinic at Royal Stoke and the post holder will provide managerial support for a small team of specialist midwives and support staff who work within the area.

Day-care is located within the antenatal clinic at Royal Stoke where we provide a seven day service for women and birthing people. The post holder will be provide managerial oversight of day-care at Royal Stoke.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced midwife, who is able to role model, lead by example and provide first line managerial support.

You will be part of a well-established Outpatient midwifery team, and fully integrated with the community team leaders, screening coordinator and other specialist services.

Key Areas/Tasks

  • The Ward Manager/Midwife has continuing responsibility for the management of the clinical area including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Co-ordinate and manage midwifery care within the Antenatal Clinic, work in partnership with colleagues and medical staff across the Directorate to facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care.
  • The manager will provide clinical leadership and develop standards to promote high quality practice.
  • The Ward manager/Midwife will facilitate innovative and evidence based nursing/midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.
  • The Ward manager/Midwife will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential.
  • Evaluate clinical practice and its outcomes to sustain and improve the quality of care in all aspects of midwifery practice within Antenatal Clinic.By utilising clinical audit,research, supervision of practice and teaching.
  • Ensure the provision of safe, effective and high-quality care for all women maintaining continuity of care from referral/admission to transfer/discharge within the multidisciplinary framework.
  • The post holder will be responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust Policies and Procedures while maintaining contemporaneous and accurate records.
