The Position
As a Senior NLP Scientist, you will leverage NLP text-mining, artificial intelligence, mechanistic modelling, and Knowledge Graphs to aid early research efforts. Your primary focus will involve extracting valuable insights from unstructured text to provide rapid decision support for scientists. This will encompass working with a variety of textual documents including scientific literature, patents, patient literature, drug labels, clinical trial data, news media, pipeline data, internal reports, and Electronic Lab Notebooks. In addition to your core responsibilities, this role offers the opportunity to cultivate both internal and external collaborations, explore innovative data sets and methodologies, and actively contribute to strategy discussions. Notably, the team has unique access to significant GPU resources. As an NLP Scientist at Novo Nordisk, you will be entrusted with the below responsibilities:


  • Conduct cutting-edge research in information retrieval, including LLMs and Knowledge Graph technologies. Develop advanced algorithms for information and insights extraction, such as relationship extraction, semantic similarities, summarization, and Natural Language inference.
  • Utilize neural network models for language understanding tasks and contribute to the development and fine-tuning of language models and evaluate the performance of neural models and validate the accuracy of extracted knowledge.
  • Support Scientific Intelligence and Digital Science & Innovation teams with knowledge enriching analysis results via natural language generation and GenAI and actively guide and coach NLP Scientists in their professional development and project execution.
  • Collaborate closely with relevant Digital Science & Innovation teams to translate best-performance techniques into production and set technical directions and influence the progression of initiatives across the early research organization.
  • Present and report scientific results to stakeholders, participate in line/digital projects progression with strong NLP and knowledge graph expertise, encourage, propose, and participate in projects that boost the use of advanced text mining and knowledge graphs.



Qualifications


  • You hold minimum of a Bachelor's or master’s or PhD degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Applied Mathematics, Information Science, Information Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-6 years of experience with Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning technologies.
  • Profound knowledge of Deep Learning methods applied to NLP.
  • Programming experience, particularly in Python, and familiarity with AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, Pytorch, or Hugging Face.
  • Experience with NLP toolkits like Spacy, CoreNLP, OpenNLP, and LLM frameworks such as Langchain, LlamaIndex, etc. would be preferred
  • 3-6 years of industry experience, preferable biotech and/or pharmaceutical would be added advantage.
  • It would also be of great advantage, should you have any of the following experiences: Publication record in top NLP / ML venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, NACL, EMNLP, NAACL, TACL, AAAI, etc. R&D and Life Science experiences on Low-resource, Explainable NLP, Development of language models incl. multimodality training. Knowledge representation and reasoning and/or neural symbolic reasoning (BERT, RoBERTa, and GPT-4). Hands-on experience on production of NLP systems.

Scientific Intelligence is a part of the research area, Data & Knowledge Discovery (DKD) which is established to provide data and knowledge excellence, drive external collaborations, and access emerging technologies in the digital space of drug discovery. DKD is part of Digital Science & Innovation (DSI), which drives digitalisation across R&ED and participates in drug development projects from early discovery to pre-clinical development.
