Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop safe engineering solutions through design, problem analysis, and interpreting specifications for medium complexity utilities projects.
  • Assist project/operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule targets by proposing plan changes, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules
  • Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems through independent studies, analysis, exercising judgment in information selection, and recommending safe engineering designs
  • Contribute to CIMA 's engineering practices by conducting studies, developing technical standards, exercising judgment in information evaluation, recommending designs, and providing guidance to other engineers
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by defining engineering scope with clients, establishing design criteria, approving technical documentation, and assessing/reporting progress against standards and objectives for safe, quality, budget-compliant, and timely project completion

Additional Responsibilities

  • Design overhead lines and associated facilities for voltages from 60kV to 735kV in an electric utility environment, including transmission towers, foundations and hardware and fittings.
  • Prepare project documentation like reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, and test plans per CIMA ’s practices
  • Develop design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates, and manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost for existing and new facilities
  • Provide signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record per EGBC and CIMA ’s practices
  • Offer technical assistance, construction support, and field reviews as required
  • Apply loads, design criteria, seismic analysis per regulatory and industry standards, considering associated civil, mechanical, electrical systems like foundations, lightning protection, conductors, and hardware
  • Perform structural design, analysis, and detailing for structures, foundations and hardware assemblies. Review manufacturer shop drawings
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff and review of designs prepared by others, following established practices.

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience
  • Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in BC/ Canada, or eligible for registration in BC
  • Proficient with the PLS-CADD suite, design/analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Effective communication abilities in English – written and verbal. French is an asset.
  • Experience in design tasks including scope, schedule and cost control

The expected salary for this position is from $105,440 to $131,800 based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
