This position is for someone with strong Mechanical Engineering aptitudes, a jack-of-all-trades mentality and a strong personal interest in cycling. The right person is driven to use ‘first principles’ to design and make things themselves by hand, having developed a lot of skills over time in this way. We know this is an unusual person. Bike Friday is unusual.

Position is part time to full time depending on the skills, experience and interest of person hired/

We are looking for a hands-on leader with a deep understanding of both engineering principles, product development and production processes to join our tight-knit team. Reporting directly to the President, you will oversee all aspects of product development, engineering and support manufacturing team. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on both the technical and operational aspects of our business.

Bike Friday is a dynamic and innovative custom bicycle manufacturer, dedicated to delivering personalized cycling solutions to our customers. As we navigate a period of growth and transition, we are seeking a versatile leader to join our leadership team directing Engineering and Product development. This role will be instrumental in driving technical innovation and operational excellence across our organization.


Responsibilities

– Lead the design and development of innovative bicycle models and components, collaborating closely with the production team to ensure manufacturability and efficiency– Support production team in delivering customer bikes by participating part time in the build process

– Support the frame-building process, working closely with craftsmen and technicians to maintain quality standards and optimize production workflows and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for product innovation and market expansion, leveraging your technical expertise and industry knowledge

– Help maintain the machinery the factory relies on

– Build and improve tools

– Play a key role in strategic planning and decision-making processes, contributing valuable insights and recommendations to support business growth and sustainability


Qualifications

– Passion for cycling and a deep commitment to delivering high-quality, custom-built bicycles that exceed customer expectations

– Extensive experience in engineering, product development, and manufacturing within the cycling industry, with a strong understanding of frame building techniques and materials. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design is a plus but not required.

– Strong bike mechanic skills and component compatibility understanding

– Familiarity with production processes and equipment

– Strong leadership and communication skills working with cross-functional teams in a collaborative environment
