In order to be considered to join our AEC Practice, in this Director position, you must have demonstrated experience with delivery of professional design services for complex multi-discipline, engineering, process, and architecture & engineering design projects for Life Science sector manufacturing clients.

When you join Design Group as a Director of Engineering, A/E Design , you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.
What You’ll Do
- Team Leadership: Leading and mentoring technical team members in key Life Sciences projects, overseeing a multi-discipline team (Process, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrument/Control System engineering disciplines).
- Mentorship and Support: Instilling passion, optimism, and purpose in the team, and providing guidance and mentorship.
- Team Management: Delegating assignments, managing department resources, and fostering team member growth.
- Business Growth: Proactively growing the business through client engagement, effective communication, and mentorship.
- Quality Assurance: Ensuring high-quality work production in an efficient manner.
- Collaboration and Standards Development: Working with department and engineering managers to develop standards and best practices.
- Performance Management: Providing regular feedback, conducting merit reviews, and performing peer reviews.
- Technical Oversight: Overseeing technical accuracy, reviewing work products, and taking responsibility for the quality of design and construction documents.
- Project Documentation: Sealing project construction documents.
- Equipment and System Design: Interfacing with vendors for equipment sizing and system design, selecting mechanical equipment.
- Site Observations and Reporting: Performing site observations, studies, and writing technical reports.
- Project Specifications: Reviewing, editing, and developing project specifications.
- Proposal Assistance: Assisting project managers in proposal development by providing necessary details and strategies.
- RFP Preparation: Preparing RFPs for subconsultants and specialty consultants.
- Bid Review and Recommendations: Reviewing bids and providing recommendations for contract awards.
- Contractor Oversight: Ensuring quality work from contractors and sub-contractors.
- Regulatory Engagement: Engaging with organizations involved in regulatory guideline development.
- Workload Management: Participating in workload leveling and coordination.
- Business Development: Contributing to marketing, proposal development, project management, and candidate recruitment.
- Client and Team Impact: Making a daily impact with skills and expertise, strengthening client and team relationships.
- A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina with the ability to be “Responsible-In-Charge” for our AEP projects executed in the area.
- Client-facing experience in the target-rich Life Sciences Raleigh market with credibility for Integrated Project opportunities - leading with Design and complemented by our local Construction Management capability.
- Self-motivated leader capable of managing a complex multi-discipline project with resources from various hubs/offices as needed
- The ability to execute engineering work efficiently by performing design and calculations, producing construction documents and specifications, performing peer reviews, conducting site evaluations, and writing technical reports
- Solid interpersonal, mentorship, leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in technical writing
- A willingness to travel to project sites
- A willingness to relocate to the local area (relocation assistance is available for highly qualified candidates)
