Reports To: Payroll Manager

Position Summary:  

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to join our Accounting and Finance team. Reporting into the Payroll Manager and based out of the Home Office, the Payroll Supervisor will lead a team and work closely with venue operations, Human Resources, and finance teams to oversee aspects of payroll processing.

This position is a hybrid role, with 3 days onsite at our Home Office in Chicago (River North), IL.



Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Oversee and develop a team of payroll coordinators to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely, in accordance with processing deadlines for all associates across multiple locations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, separations, and changes to pay rates
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices, staying up to date on changes and recommending updates to process and procedure accordingly.
  • Weekly and monthly audits and reconciliation of payroll/tax system to ensure alignment across systems, processes, and policies, particularly within weekly payroll 401K EE/ER deductions, debits, and journal entries to ADP.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on payroll related matters within venues and all applicable state laws, answering questions and providing general troubleshooting support and assistance to various team-members or employees.
  • Lead tip integration and partnership with operations and human resources, creating process for computing and auditing credit card tips.
  • Compute and process manual/off cycle check requests.
  • Advise and collaborate on process and system changes, identifying and recommending process improvements and automation opportunities to ensure accuracy and efficiency within a high growth environment.
  • Conduct investigations into potential errors and plan administration issues, including appropriate documentation and recommendations on necessary actions to resolve.
  • Respond to client, employee and provider inquiries related to retirement benefit programs.
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years' experience of full cycle, multi-unit payroll experience within a fast-pace, startup environment
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience managing a team of direct reports
  • Experience with payroll for a wide variety of exempt and non-exempt positions, and an understanding of multi-location local, state, and federal tax and payroll laws
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and effective organization skills
  • Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing, diverse work environment
  • Strong Knowledge in use of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Excel, Outlook
  • This position must pass a post-offer background check

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience within the hospitality, social entertainment, and/or retail space strongly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience within ADP WFN

Physical Requirements

  • Work environment-ability to commute to our River North office three times a week
  • Physical demands-ability to sit for extended periods of time.
