Job Overview

The Augustine Controller is a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst. This role is responsible for the essential financial and accounting functions of the agency, including regulatory compliance and streamlining our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. The Controller is tasked with maintaining the day-to-day activities of the accounting department while evolving the current accounting processes and technology to ensure efficiency, automation, and visibility. This person develops and maintains accounting systems for the company in maintaining books of accounts and related materials, as well as handling day-to-day financial matters. The Controller also produces thorough financial-status reports for senior managers to help improve the agency’s operational efficiency and aid in its continued growth.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares weekly cash flow report for CEO, COO, and CFO Consultant.
  • Performs all daily and monthly duties related to general ledger and month closing.
  • Establishes and maintains all corporate policies related to accounting and budget matters.
  • In collaboration with CFO Consultant, develops and enforces internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Reconciles the company’s bank accounts monthly.
  • Meets monthly with COO to discuss operational, resource, and revenue updates and reconciliation.
  • In collaboration with the executive team, assists with preparing annual budgets and projections.
  • Monitors budgets throughout the year and reports any significant deviations to senior leadership with analysis detailing the cause for the deviation and corrective action(s) necessary.
  • Prepares all financial reports, with accounting programs/platforms, as required, to comply with internal and external reporting requirements and in compliance with all federal, state, local and professional requirements.
  • Monitors expenses throughout the year and confers with appropriate personnel regarding discrepancies or variances.
  • Collaborates and partners with specified departments/department heads to evolve financial and account activity to ensure visibility and operational scalability (example, the automation of reports through specified platforms).
  • Responsible for all vendor payment communication through the [email protected] and adherence to the Augustine vendor/client communication standard operating procedure.
  • Provides special reporting and analysis to management as required.
  • Able to perform all duties within the Accounting department (Assistant Controller, Accounting Managers, etc.) as a secondary support for coverage or volume fluctuations.
  • Prepares and provides reporting and other related documents and information to agency CPA for annual tax return filing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises 1-2 employee(s) in the Accounting department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws including, but not limited to, budgets and financial reporting, general ledger, billing, AR/AP and payroll.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • 7 years as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software and financial analysis
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Exemplary organizational budgeting and financial management skills
  • Ability to apply math concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Excellent planning, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills to oversee Accounting strategies and work with all employees within the company
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and other related software
  • Proven experience in budgeting, bank reconciliation and general ledger
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate to maximize efficiency
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial principles and processes
  • Business acumen

Location / Hours / Travel

This is a full-time position. We are a hybrid team working remotely, but with expectations to meet in person once a week or as often as needed for face time, planning and goals.
