JOB TITLE:

Campus Farm Assistant

DEPARTMENT:

Integrated Agriculture and Food Systems

PAY RANGE:

$15.50 per hour

STATUS AND SCHEDULE:

Temporary, to start May 2024 and may work up-to October 31, 2024; part-time, up-to 19 hours per week, may work between Monday and Friday, 8a to 5p; will not work holidays; non-benefit eligible

SUMMARY:

Supports FVCC's campus farm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assists with crop production activities such as planting, weeding, mowing, bed preparation, and crop harvest
  • Works as a team member to ensure that crops are harvested and safely prepared for sale and distribution
  • Coordinates and performs maintenance of field bindweed research plots
  • Assists with application of experimental treatments and data collection in the field bindweed research study
  • Communicates with others about daily farm activities and works to troubleshoot production issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned to function as a successful member of the Campus Farm
  • Reports to the Campus Farm Manager


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with small-scale farm operations and crop production
  • Experience with conducting research and data collection


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to plan ahead
  • Ability to read and write and understand and follow verbal and written instructions and directions
  • Skill and ability in the safe use and operation of a variety of farm equipment, machinery, implements, and tools
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to work in a variety of climatic conditions
  • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the public, donors, students, potential students and College community
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and public
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency
  • This is a Heavy Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Heavy Duty involves exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
