Position Objective

The job of Transportation Operations Supervisor is done for the purpose/s of providing overall coverage of the transportation operations; meeting scheduling demands; assisting individuals in the performance of functions; and resolving and/or recommending solutions to incidents, complaints and/or accidents.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Assesses incidents, complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
  • Oversees transportation personnel files (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of providing documentation for audit purposes, payroll, and meeting district, state and federal requirements.
  • Participates in various activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information meeting federal and state standards.
  • Prepares documentation (e.g. job performance evaluations, probationary evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. boundary changes, bus routes for eligible and special education students, student behavior at bus stops and/or on buses, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction and/or making decisions.
  • Schedules regular inspections of all buses for the purpose of ensuring compliance with required bus driver reviews of their bus.
  • Supervises assigned department personnel, including hiring/termination recommendations, planning/scheduling/coordinating activities, training, advising, consulting, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that department functions in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions In This Class Typically Require)

  • Targeted job related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements.
  • Job related experience within specialized field is required

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions In This Class Typically Require)

  • Class B CDL with air brake and passenger endorsement required.

KNOWLEDGE (position Requirements At Entry)

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform functions of the job includes pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.

SKILLS (position Requirements At Entry)

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operate standard office equipment; plan and manage projects; standard clerical procedures.

ABILITY (position Requirements At Entry)

ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhere to safety practices; be attentive to detail; meet deadlines and schedules; work under time constraints; communicate with diverse groups; record keeping.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
