Legislative Aide (Grade 18, Term, Non-Merit)

Montgomery County Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles (D-At Large) is seeking a Legislative Aide to support her policy work. This role offers a significant opportunity for growth and experience. This is a non-merit term position. Terms are defined in the Council office, up to one year or at the discretion of the Council Member.

Duties Include

  • Providing research and analysis on all issues of your assigned committee portfolio.
  • Drafting legislative memos, letters, legislation, and amendments for the Councilmember.
  • Representing and staffing the Councilmember at events and in stakeholder meetings.
  • Researching and responding to inquiries from constituents, businesses, and organizations.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties. This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office, including some evenings and weekends.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $57,907 - $74,627.

Montgomery County Ethics Law: Except as provided by law or regulation, the County's "Public Employees" (which does not include employees of the Sheriff's office) are subject to the County's ethics law including the requirements to obtain advanced approval of any outside employment and the prohibitions on certain outside employment. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in legislative/policy research and professional-level experience, preferably on issues about Transportation, Environment, Public Health, Education, Budget, Nonprofits, Public Safety, Zoning, Housing, Recreation, or Planning.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be submitted.
