OVERVIEW: The Sacramento Crisis Nursery is a family-strengthening program, where parents can bring their children ages 0-5 to one of two Sacramento nurseries for emergency childcare services or overnight care during difficult times. Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families in times of crisis.

The Family Service Coordinator is responsible for scheduling children and families that may be using the Crisis Nursery. Including, intakes, exits, client tours and coordination and supportive services for the Case Manager as needed.

DUTIES :

  • Answers, screens and transfers incoming calls to program staff or voicemail when appropriate.

  • Greets families, volunteers, donors, employees and general public in a professional manner. May provide Nursery tours in Case Manager’s absence.

  • Facilitates the intake and discharge of referred children.

  • Complete all Request for Services

  • Screen clients for appropriateness of care

  • Triages families’ reasons for care based on risk level

  • Maintain schedule for Emergency Child Care and Overnight Care

  • Ensure that Staff to Child ratios are maintained at all times

  • Coordinates care and services needed with the Case Manager

  • Ensures the safety of the children at all times.

  • Provides direct child-care services as needed including coverage as a Lead Child Care Worker.

  • Maintains awareness of the needs and well-being of all children.

  • Maintains a case file on all identified families needing services and places on a waiting list.

  • Maintains accurate and current files on each child and family.

  • Provides data for program reports as assigned.

  • Maintains clear and open communication with program staff regarding the care and services to children and families.

  • Completes written documentation per program requirements, and in compliance with agency policy and Community Care Licensing regulations.

  • Provides tours for potential volunteers

  • Attends weekly mandatory site meetings and trainings.

  • Provides outreach to various community resources as needed.

  • Provide direct care and supervision to children as needed.

LOCATION: 6699 South Land Park Dr. Sacramento, CA 95831 (Crisis Nursery North)

SCHEDULE: Tuesday - Saturday, 9:30 am – 6:00 pm

SALARY: $22.87 - $25.72 per hour, to start

Qualifications

Education and Experience:A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Must have completed 12 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, as determined by institution. Classes must have a focus on Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Child Health at an accredited college or university. At least 3 semester units, or equivalent quarter units, shall include coursework in the care of infants. Six (6) months of experience in a position providing direct care of infants may be substituted for the 3 semester units in the care of infants.

AND

Six months of work experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable licensed group child-care program is required.

Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) required.

One year of prior experience working with children and families required. Prior experience working with families in crisis is highly desired.

Previous Experience Working With Children 0-5 Years Old Preferred.

Ideal candidates will possess an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Behavioral Science, Child Development, or a related behavioral health/social servicesdegree.

Driving is an essential function of this job. As such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is also required. Must be at least 21 years old.

  • Knowledge of the cultural, economic, social, psychological, and educational factors of the families we serve.

  • Knowledge of family dynamics and a keen sense of which tools and skills are needed to assist the family in fulfilling their treatment plan.

  • Ability to relate to children and families in a positive manner.

  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with children and families.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, familiarity with Access is preferred.

  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
