Position Summary

The Security Officer is responsible for creating and promoting a safe and welcoming, environment at Cumberland Heights. This position reports directly to the Security Manager. The Security Officer must be able to interpret and take appropriate actions regarding conditions and incidents relating to safety and security on campus and off campus sites.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides a prompt and courteous customer service-oriented response to patients, families, and visitors to the campus.
  • Provides the presence and actions necessary to promote a safe and secure environment by
  • Maintaining awareness of patient schedule and campus activities.
  • Identifying and addressing any issues relating to safety and security.
  • Routinely patrolling each building, parking lots and campus grounds.
  • Communicating regularly and effectively with medical/clinical staff.
  • Monitoring all Campus Security CCTV cameras and exterior grounds cameras.
  • Monitoring and responding to all incoming communications to Security via email or phone.
  • Monitoring Fire Panel System and Alarms.
  • Maintaining documentation and approvals for all patient property to be brought to campus.
  • Completes Daily Routine Activity Reports (DAR) in the Security scanner phone, documenting Emergency Codes and maintenance issues found.
  • Completes CHIRP Incident Reports regarding any event outside of normal operations before the end of assigned shift.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as Code Reds, Code Blues, Code Greys, and Code Yellows according to established policies and procedures, including acting as the designated First Responder in emergency codes.
  • De-escalates and manages physical and verbal altercations, according to established policies and procedures, focusing on using the least amount of physical force that is necessary, as well as on ways to prevent future recurrence.
  • Maintains current certifications as required of an unarmed security officer.
  • Participates in debriefing and peer reviews regarding any critical situations.
  • Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
  • Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information.
  • Reacts productively to change.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as:
  • Delivering of packages, boxes, and company mail to the mail room.
  • Delivery of Patient Medications to the Medical building.
  • Escorting visitors, Metro/Sheriff departments or Emergency Responders to appropriate locations.
  • Vehicle searches and processing of prohibited items found, according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performing routine 2-hour Rotations from Welcome Center and Campus Grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred and/or a one (1) year safety related experience equivalent.
  • CPRS certification is preferred but not required.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License required.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft (Outlook, Work and Excel)
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • Ability to make decisions under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to problem-solve, analyze, and interpret information.
  • Superior organizational skills for managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively speak, read and write in English.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers in a collaborative and courteous manner while providing guidance, instruction, and training.
  • If recovering, one year of verifiable abstinence required with two years preferred; active participation in a twelve-step program preferred.

Work Environment

  • Position is in an internal and external occupational setting that involves exposure to weather conditions (i.e., cold, heat, rain, snow or ice).
  • Position requires frequent contact with people in crisis, including those who are emotionally volatile and may require additional safety precautions.
  • May perform CPR/First Aid as needed (being certified or eligible is required)
  • Position is subject to varying shifts, including weekends as well as staying overnight for inclement weather as part of critical staffing.
  • Ability to lift and/or push pull up to 75 lbs. multiple times a day; move around campus on uneven and rural terrain; run or climb stairs in a rapid manner.
  • Ability to restrain individuals using strength
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability of constant use of manual dexterity, coordination, mobility, visual discrimination, hearing and concentration
