Pay Range: $60,000 – 74,980 annual compensation

A Graduate Engineer position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department on the Capital Delivery Thoroughfare Team. The Graduate Engineer will perform engineering duties related to the design and construction of public works projects, including project planning, executing design and construction contracts, reviewing construction plans and specifications, preparing and reviewing cost estimates and project schedules, conducting site visits, advertising and bidding projects, monitoring projects through the construction phase, and completing and closing out projects.

This Position qualifies for the following incentive which is separate from the base pay:

  • Sign-On Incentive of $3,000
  • 50% paid after the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after the completion of 6 months of employment. ***

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or university with no experience required.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will possess the enthusiasm to learn, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, be able to interact with consultants, stakeholders, and citizens, be results-focused, pay attention to detail, and have excellent communications skills.
  • Experience with Bluebeam software for plan review.
  • Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

The Graduate Engineer Job Responsibilities Include

  • Working with Professional Engineers and Project Managers to deliver multiple simultaneous infrastructure improvement projects while coordinating with a variety of stakeholders to deliver projects within budget and on schedule within very tight time constraints.
  • Gaining expert-level knowledge of engineering design criteria related to the design of roadways, pavement, sidewalks, storm drainage, and pedestrian facilities.
  • Performing detailed reviews of construction drawings and specifications throughout the design process and providing comments and direction to consultant design engineers.
  • Creating and reviewing cost estimates representing the Total Project Budget Estimate of a project including project design costs, utility and ROW costs, construction costs, contingencies and escalation, construction administration, testing and inspection costs and project close-out costs
  • Developing and reviewing project schedules, including durations and milestones for project initiation, agreement execution, design, review, permitting, utility relocation, construction, and close-out.
  • Creating project presentations, taking site photographs, writing status reports, and performing analyses to allow proactive communication about projects with City leadership, stakeholders in other City departments, and residents of the City of Fort Worth.
  • Assisting in the processing of professional services contracts and construction contracts including engineering contract amendments and construction change orders.
  • Coordinating the advertising and bidding of projects for construction.

Working Conditions

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking and repetitive motions.

Physical Demand

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects, standing and walking for long periods during project site visits and inspections.
