Position Summary

Position open until filled / First Review of materials will begin: March 6, 2024

Salary range for this position is: $80,659/yr. to $81,900/yr.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

Under the supervision of the Dean of Workforce Instruction, the full-time tenure track Early Childhood Education (ECE) faculty will be responsible for teaching courses in the Bachelor of Applied Science and Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education programs in both English and Spanish languages. North Seattle College is building a BAS degree in Spanish, and this full-time, tenure-track faculty position will join in and contribute to a community of passionate educators who proudly embrace our mission of Changing Lives through Education, both in and beyond the classroom. This position will provide essential assistance in developing curricular materials as well as delivering bilingual instruction to a growing multi-cultural, multi-ability Spanish speaking population of students in the ECE program. Our faculty are highly collaborative and care deeply about creating an inclusive and equitable environment to advance success for all students.

This position is full-time, working 36 hours per week Monday through Friday or Saturday primarily mid-day and evenings.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT.

What you will be working on

  • Under the general direction of the Dean for Workforce Instruction Division and in collaboration with the Early Childhood Education faculty, the instructor will:
  • Fulfill an average workload of 15 credit-hour-equivalencies of instruction per quarter.
  • Design, instruct, and assess assigned courses in a manner that promotes student success and multicultural perspectives.
  • Teach courses in Spanish and English offered on campus and through hybrid and online modalities, on scheduled days and/or times.
  • Incorporate active student learning, with emphasis on current anti-bias educational theories and research.
  • Consult with students in areas of faculty expertise.
  • Participate in program marketing and student recruitment activities that are effective for diverse populations.
  • Contribute to program development and revision of curriculum that reflect advances in the field of early childhood education.
  • Attend and participate in regular department, division and college meetings.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with early learning programs and schools, and expand those where appropriate.
  • Contribute to grant-funding proposal development.
  • Participate in the life and culture of the department, division, and college.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Meet all professional obligations as described in the faculty union agreement.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Doctorate or master's degree or in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, or related degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in early childhood education, working with children and families in an education setting.
  • Verbal and written proficiency in the Spanish language.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive and caring learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse populations of students and advocating for education that is framed in equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated experience in actively building and participating in a community of students, staff, and faculty of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with electronic communications (i.e. E-mail, Internet) and knowledge of interactive learning software.

Physical Requirements

The Position

  • Typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to Perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office.
  • Encounters frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
  • Is regularly required to provide 1:1 support, present to small groups, and work at a computer exercising repetitive hand motion with or without reasonable accommodation.
