Job Summary

The Director, Retail will be responsible for developing a clear strategy for significantly strengthening James Hardie’s presence in the retail space and expanding their retail business by creating an improved and expanded retail channel for their interior and exterior products in North America. This role currently leads a team of 10-15, focused on the continued development and implementation of our retail strategy, resulting in a highly effective retail channel in a fast-paced and often high growth market for our transforming business. This individual will also be responsible for balancing growth and profitability of both the interior and exteriors businesses through the Retail channel, as well as prioritizing developing the team. Today, the primary retail channel that James Hardie operates through is with Lowe’s and The Home Depot, an approximate $500M business.

What You’ll Do:

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy development for retail programs to meet/exceed sales goals for current and future products.
  • Work cross functionally to develop a holistic approach, aligned with overall business strategy in the retail channel, which includes the development of marketing plans, advertising strategy, promotion development, product planning, training for retail partners as appropriate, merchandising strategy/execution, etc.
  • Develop and communicate a clear and inspiring vision for the future of the retail business while establishing high performance expectations for execution.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues responsible for sales execution as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop winning routes to market for new innovation platforms.
  • Negotiate contracts with Strategic National Retail accounts.
  • Identify new retail account opportunities and growth within existing accounts, aligned with broader commercial and business strategy.
  • Frequently visit store locations of retail partners to check newly established merchandising standards, gain insight and drive continuous improvement within this channel.
  • Other project and relevant duties as requested.

What You’ll Bring:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, in Business or relevant field.
  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience operating and leading teams in retail environments with specific experience in merchandising.
  • Demonstrated experience developing strategy for execution in retail space.
  • Experience in home improvement, building materials, retail environments highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with stakeholders at all levels of an organization

  • Detail oriented, with solid organizational skills.
  • Aptitude to analyze results and make recommendations.
  • Ability to travel
