QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • 1 - Active Angel Investor, active Family Office, or you represent a Private Foundation/Trust with philanthropic interests aligned with Institute mission


  • 2 - Sector Expertise in Institute’s areas of chronic POPULATION HEALTH conditions (see Institute Mission below), Climate (specifically BLUE ECONOMY or BUILT ENVIRONMENT), and leveraging Artificial Intelligence to increase innovation and impact in Institute’s Health & Climate areas of focus


  • 3 - Relevant network and track record in co-investing OR philanthropic FUNDRAISING directly from family offices, philanthropic entities, foundations, private donors. Preferably based in North America, UK, or Europe but has a GLOBAL perspective.


  • 4 - Hands-on expertise in Venture Capital (but NOT currently at a VC Fund) and Impact Delivery


  • 5 - Executive track record as CEO, CIO, CTO, or Board Member for a “For-Profit” bringing a high degree of governance, commercial expertise, risk management, and strategic planning expertise to "non-profit" Institute


YOUR DIFFERENTIATOR? The criteria above are considered the basics. What will be a differentiator and is harder to recruit for ~ is someone who


A - has the "GRAVITAS" to be an exceptional value-add member of an already amazing Board and who also can act as 1 of our unofficial "Ambassadors" for Institute and its authentic, impactful, ambitious, but easily executable vision.


B - has the ability to be "CATALYTIC" as a member of the Board in supporting MRI on its strategy and achieving its goals [e.g. brings more than sector expertise which is an Advisory Board role not Board role]


TITLE: Board of Directors (Non-Executive Director)

  • Start Date: August or Sept 2024
  • Board Meetings: Quarterly for 90 minutes, complemented by approx. 6 hours / month for active "hands-on" engagement between Board Meetings in building Institute eco-system, strategy, and "soft" fundraising
  • Location: 100% remote with physical attendance at 1 board meeting annually
  • Domicile of Director: Preference for USA, Caribbean, Canada, UK, or Europe
  • REMUNERATION: Non-cash / voluntary for non-profit
  • References: Two references relevant to Board position, available upon request

Institute was recently incorporated in Houston, Texas, USA in March 2024, with 501c3 administrator.


Our current 5-person Global Board of Directors is being expanded with the recruitment of 3 additional Climate Board Members over the summer, also expanding the Institute’s philanthropic and family office stakeholders/donors.


INSTITUTE MISSION:

Institute is committed to advancing the economic empowerment of WOMEN and ECONOMICALLY UNDER-REPRESENTED demographics globally ~ by accelerating research, innovation, programs, and partnerships to solve material innovation gaps addressing chronic Population Health and Climate conditions that disproportionately impact these demographics at scale. 


Health conditions prioritised are autoimmune diseases (incl. diabetes), cardiovascular and blood conditions (e.g. heart disease, anti-phosphorus lipid syndrome), inflammation, environmental allergies, certain cancers, neurological and brain health.


The Institute promotes positive environmental and Climate Impact on Human Health through its focus on the Built Environment (Materials Innovation, Carbon Reduction); the Blue Economy (Marine Biology, OceanTech, Seaweed Value Chain, Coastal Regeneration); and leverages Artificial Intelligence to accelerate innovation and impact in Climate solutions.


Institute recently executed or launched major initiatives (some in partnership with Maroon Invest Global – see MIG website):

  1. US-UK AstraWell Partnership in Women’s Health ~ in partnership with largest Womens Health foundation in UK
  2. Women’s Catalytic Climate Fellowship in the Blue Economy & Built Environment which includes a Global Innovation Exchange Program
  3. Oban Blue Economy Forum 2024 (Institute also has a presence at European Marine Science Park)
