Executive Director, Greenwich Theatre. Salary up to £50,000
The history of Greenwich Theatre began over 150 years ago and today it is an award-winning Off-West End theatre counting Dame Helen Mirren as one of its Patrons.
Having secured a new lease of almost 25 years they are now embarking on a new chapter and wish to appoint an Executive Director to manage the theatre on a co-leadership basis together with their talented Artistic Director, James Haddrell.
As part of the executive team and reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director will take the lead in ensuring effective corporate governance of the charity, develop opportunities to increase income generation to support its objectives, and inspire staff and key partners to ensure that the theatres vision and ambition is implemented effectively.
The main aspects of the role -
Lead the development and evolution of the Theatres identity and its position in the national arts landscape
Work with the Board to develop a long-term business plan
Devise commercial strategies to present a nationally significant programme of theatre, combining in-house production with work by visiting producers, and developing and delivering a strategy for presenting activity beyond the venue
Review opportunities to maximise the utilisation of the theatre and its prime location in Greenwich
Create and implement the fundraising strategy to maximise external opportunities to raise revenue streams to ensure the long-term viability of the asset and the organisation
The role will suit someone with an understanding and a passion for Theatre and the Arts, combined with commercial and business acumen and , who is able to bring strong financial oversight. Candidates from an event space or heritage background are also welcomed.
Key will be the management of resources to ensure that income targets are met and new opportunities for commercial and charitable fundraisingare developed.
The role holder will be expected to be both strategic and hands on; no two days are the same in the world of theatre. Strong, visible leadership is required to motivate and inspire the small, dedicated team, thus the ability to communicate well with others at all levels is required
The charity has a mix of paid staff, contractors and volunteers with the Executive Director providing the vision to sustain the theatre, build effective partnerships and motivate staff.
The following are considered essential skills for the role to be a success
High level of commercial acumen
Good finance skills, with a background of profit and loss accountability
Experience of strategic and business planning
Demonstrable record of income generation and fundraising
Experience of working with, or being a member of, a Board of Trustees

Salary is up to £50,000. The holder will be required to be based at the theatre 5 days a week.
