The Senior RF Test Engineer position resides in the Lab Services department at CableLabs. This department focuses on delivering testing services to external clients and internal project teams. Our team plays a crucial role in evaluating best-in-class test equipment, the latest residential and enterprise-grade DOCSIS equipment, and creating test strategies to validate technical requirements and performance objectives.

Why This Role Is Exciting

The position is responsible for overseeing and successfully executing our DOCSIS HFC and PON testing solutions. Your expertise in interoperability testing, network performance testing, environmental testing, and scalability testing will be critical in delivering services to service operators and suppliers in the industry. This is a highly collaborative position that will serve as a service delivery expert for the Commercial Relationships (Sales) team and support enhancements and expansion of testing services.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the team interface for troubleshooting of RF-related issues discovered during certification testing.
  • Execute testing and validation of current and next-generation wired networks, including HFC and PON networking technologies.
  • Perform interoperability testing to ensure seamless integration of DOCSIS HFC and PON and network components.
  • Conduct network performance testing to evaluate and optimize system performance, capacity, and reliability.
  • Perform HFC and PON end-to-end system testing to assess network performance under various conditions and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct scalability testing to evaluate the network's ability to handle increasing demands and identify potential bottlenecks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What Is a Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of education and lab expertise in wireline communications.
  • In-depth understanding of the operation and functioning of physical layer technology in DOCSIS Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) networks and Passive Optical Networking (xPON – IEEE and ITU).
  • Proven experience in interoperability testing, network performance testing, environmental testing, and scalability testing.
  • Strong knowledge of DOCSIS HFC and PON and network architectures, protocols, and industry standards, is desired.
  • Familiar with testing, debugging, and evaluation of communication systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Hands-on experience with communication components/subsystems/systems and test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, noise generators.

  • Relevant certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, SCTE, or related certifications, are a plus.

Compensation: The salary range is $113,375 to $138,625. This position is eligible for bonus incentive compensation up to 20% of base salary.

This job operates in a professional office and lab environment. This role routinely uses standard office and lab equipment. May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment up to 50lbs.
