The Eligibility and Benefits Specialist in our Patient Financial Services department is responsible for conducting insurance verifications, benefit determinations, and authorization submissions on scheduled patients to ensure eligibility and that benefits are in order for accurate claim submission and payment.
Obtains insurance authorization and pre-certification as needed.
Investigates insurance benefits.
Obtains and manages government payor referrals.
Works eligibility queues and tasks.
Works with payors or other providers to obtain out-of-network referrals for patients when necessary.
Stays up to date on insurance company requirements for authorizations and referrals.
Requirements
High School diploma or GED required
At least 2 years’ experience in a medical billing office is required; oncology is preferred
Must have working knowledge of third party billing requirements to ensure appropriate authorizations are completed.
Must have general working knowledge of insurance plans, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, medical terminology, and HIPAA
Proficient with Microsoft office
