Nature of Work:

The Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor, CCPM Biobank Clinical Laboratory Associate Director will be responsible for helping deliver the next generation of personalized medicine. The position reports to the certified Clinical Laboratory Director and responsibilities include high complexity technical and clinical case review, variant classification, and sign out of routine and complex clinical test reports. The ideal candidate autonomously provides technical interpretation of genetic testing results, validation and implementation of new assays, assay troubleshooting, technical consultation to laboratory staff, participation in QA responsibilities, and review of SOPs. This faculty position represents the University of Colorado in a professional manner and adheres to HIPAA requirements specific to the position. This position requires ABMGG-board eligibility/certification, or equivalent. It is expected that faculty members hired as Assistant Professors will transition to the Clinical Practice Faculty Series at the time of promotion to the Associate Professor level.

Examples of Work Performed:

Clinical Genetic Testing:

  • With ABMGG board certification or board-eligible status under the direction of the ABMGG-certified CCPM Biobank Clinical Laboratory Director, review and sign out clinical genetic test results.
  • Clinical Exome analysis lead – responsible, in collaboration with CCPM Biobank Clinical Laboratory Director, for the clinical variant interpretation team.
  • Assist in the direction and management of day-to-day clinical laboratory operations, including laboratory staff, equipment, and methods.

Participate in working groups of related or associated professionals.

Test Development:

  • Lead and direct personnel in the documentation of test validation, Standard Operating Procedures, and Laboratory Policies.

Regulatory and Compliance Initiatives:

  • Oversee CLIA certification and CAP accreditation maintenance activities required to clinical return of results to CCPM Biobank participants and other test subjects.
  • Ensure the CCPM Biobank Laboratory maintains compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Provide oversight for quality control and quality assurance as appropriate, including establishing quality standards for new tests and procedures.
  • Interact with external regulatory agencies, committees, and auditors.
  • Ensure that the proficiency testing program is conducted in a timely manner, reviewed by appropriate staff, and approve of corrective action when a proficiency testing result is found to be unsatisfactory.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at:

Assistant Professor: $150,000 to $175,000

Associate Professor: $175,000 to $195,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

  • PhD or MD with American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics certification or board eligibility in Clinical Molecular Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics

Associate Professor:

  • PhD or MD with American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics certification or board eligibility in Clinical Molecular Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics
