Curriculum Lead for Academic English Skills

The Curriculum Leader will provide leadership for the academic team and contribute to the delivery of excellent student outcomes; quality assurance and enhancement and curriculum innovation which embeds strong collaborative working with both the University and the network.

The Curriculum Leader will lead on key elements of the organisation of the academic team to support the delivery of excellent student outcomes. They will work with the Head of Subject to ensure the quality of provision and also to enhance the curriculum through the development of innovative practice.

Reporting to the Head of Subject, you will work closely with senior colleagues within and outside of the Centre and be accountable for the delivery of contractually required progression rates to the University. In addition to supporting the effective line management of teaching staff from an academic perspective, you will also have accountability for student outcomes across defined groups of modules.

About The Role

  • Support with maintaining academic oversight of the delivery, including timetabling, assessment, and monitoring of a cognate group of modules within the subject area
  • Deputise for the Head of Subject as and when required
  • Provide support to tutors, including providing feedback on their performance and help with arranging staff cover
  • Support the Head of Subject with the appointment of staff to the subject area
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff and represent the Centre at appropriate events and meetings within the Centre, the partner university and externally.
  • Contribute to programme senior management meetings as determined by the Head of Subject to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff and represent the Centre at appropriate events.
  • Under the guidance of the Head of Subject, work closely with Module Coordinators and University departments to maintain the currency and fitness for the purpose of modules to meet the needs of students progressing to their respective university degree programmes, and to maximise progression.
  • Liaise with the Student Outcomes team to provide support and guidance for students.
  • Be an advocate for the Provider’s Enhancement Strategy and the minimum expectations for learning and teaching.
  • Support the Head of Subject to track and monitor student engagement and student outcomes throughout the year, using knowledge of appropriate and effective intervention strategies to implement support where necessary.
  • Assure consistency of delivery and standards across the subject provision, liaise with other departments to share good practices and benefit from the dissemination of developments elsewhere in the network at the subject level.
  • Contribute to annual review, academic development and appropriate diversification of the provision (including revision of modules and the development of new modules) in a given set of modules.
  • Produce reports, analyses and evaluations for internal and external scrutiny processes as directed by the Head of Subject.
  • Supervise consistency of delivery and standards across the subject provision, in line with the Study Group LTA Strategy
  • Any other duties as required from time to time by the Head of Subject and Centre Senior Leadership Team.

ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline, a Master’s or higher degree is desirable.
  • A recognised Teaching Qualification (desirable)
  • Teaching experience within post-16 education, a UK pathway Centre or higher education
  • Some experience of providing leadership with evidence of success.
  • Experience in providing feedback to another person about their performance, which achieved an improvement.
  • Ability to delegate activities set deadlines and take responsibility for overseeing their successful completion to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Experience working with international students with a knowledge of their needs.
  • Experience in data management interpretation, and quality assurance.
  • Experience in leading, advising or supporting others to develop curricula.
  • Experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment.
