What does the team do?

The Decision Science team plays a multifaceted role in driving data-informed decision-making across the organization. They provide strategic insights to senior management, develop predictive models for forecasting trends, analyze user behaviour for product improvements, and effectively communicate complex data to stakeholders. Additionally, they conduct research, perform A/B tests, develop analytics tools, define key metrics, collaborate with other teams, manage data, create feedback loops, and optimize operations.

What You’ll Do?

As the Head of Decision Science, you will be a visionary leader who leverages data-driven insights to shape the strategic direction of our social media platform. You'll oversee a multi-faceted team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers focused on generating actionable recommendations that drive user engagement, growth, monetization, and operational efficiency. In this role, you will partner closely with executives and cross-functional teams to prioritize research opportunities, develop cutting-edge predictive models, and implement rigorous experimentation to evaluate the impact of key initiatives.

Decision Science is an independent function (not a support function), and this role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer. As a leader, you will have the autonomy to challenge product, business, and engineering teams on critical decisions, ensuring that data-driven insights are at the forefront of our strategy.

Note: This is not a pure analytics role; it operates at the intersection of analytics and data science. Expertise in areas such as time series prediction, variance reduction, policy learning experimentation/ab testing etc is a MUST for this role.

Research & Development

• Identify and prioritize research questions that address critical business challenges and opportunities.
• Design and execute rigorous experiments (A/B tests, multivariate tests, etc.) to measure the impact of product features, algorithms, and interventions across different platforms (e.g., SC, Moj, content consumption, live interactions, ads).
• Develop and deploy predictive models and algorithms to understand user behaviour, optimize content recommendations, personalize ad targeting, and forecast future trends.
• Stay informed about the latest advancements in machine learning, statistics, and causal inference, and incorporate them into your team's work.

Collaboration & Influence:

• Partner with product managers, engineers, marketers, and other stakeholders to define project priorities and ensure that data insights are effectively translated into actionable recommendations.
• Communicate complex technical findings clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences, utilizing data visualizations and storytelling techniques.
• Build and maintain tools and dashboards that empower stakeholders across the organization to make data-informed decisions independently.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure the availability, quality, and accessibility of data throughout the company.

Strategic Leadership

• Develop a comprehensive Decision Science roadmap aligned with the company's overarching goals and objectives
• Define, monitor, and optimize key metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of Decision Science initiatives.
• Attract, retain, and develop top talent in the field of data science, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Represent the company as a thought leader in data science, promoting the value of data-driven decision-making both internally and externally

Preferred Qualification:

• Education: Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master's) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related discipline.
• Experience:10 years of relevant experience in data science, analytics, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
• Proven track record of leading high-performing data science teams and delivering measurable business impact.
• Demonstrated expertise in applying machine learning, statistical modelling, experimentation, and causal inference to real-world problems.
• Deep understanding of social media platforms, user behaviour, content dynamics, and monetization strategies.
• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) is highly desirable.
