Receptionist

The Receptionist is responsible for answering, screening and transferring of telephone calls; scheduling, rescheduling and canceling of appointments; registering patients; answering patient questions; assisting with referral process and checking insurance eligibility. This position reports to the Front Desk Lead.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls and properly route calls via appropriate transfer, message taking, or follow-up and return call.
  • Efficiently and accurately schedule, reschedule and/or cancel dental appointments as requested by the patient.
  • Check insurance and verify eligibility information.
  • Collect payments from patients.
  • Collect, update and verify all pertinent patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Participate in patient education and health promotion activities.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Attend and participate in training and meetings as required and assigned.
  • Provide quality customer service to patients and providers.
  • Resolves patient inquiries, complaints or concerns regarding their accounts or appointments.
  • Communicate with direct supervisor regularly on the status of operations, patient access, medical records, insurance coverage updates and any other related issues.
  • Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a dental or healthcare environment
  • Customer service experience and ability to provide a high level of customer assistance.
  • Fluent in verbal and written Spanish language highly desired.
  • Experience using electronic practice management systems, such as Epic is strongly preferred.
  • Computer skills including proficiency in data entry, internet use and Microsoft office applications.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of information.
  • Ability to adjust to change and ask clarifying questions when necessary.
  • Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural, professional and experiential backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
