Overview: Talent Pool - Administrative & ClericalThe Patient Advocate will serve as an additional resource for our patients and guests in the Emergency Department. They will assist guests with physical and emotional needs during their visit by listening and helping the patients and their family feel heard. They will integrate iCare values as they seek to offer support, care and comfort to the ED patients and guests. The hours for this position are 10am - 10pm/11am - 11pm (36 hours a week).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with placing patients in ED rooms, getting them settled and notifying the nurse.
  • Be a sounding board for hospital staff. Listen to their concerns and offer support with challenging patients/family members.
  • Document patient concerns and notify ED Assistant Director when deemed necessary or requested by the patient.
  • Establishes rapport with patients and family members. Present a personal, friendly, and empathetic manner to guests. Support patients and their guests emotionally and attend to physical needs when appropriate/approved, such as getting them a blanket, something to drink or eat when appropriate
  • Monitor ED waiting area by stocking the area and monitoring cleanliness
  • Work to resolve patient and family concerns and questions such as work notes, care concerns/questions, admitting status

Qualifications

EDUCATION:High School Diploma or equivalent - Required

Bachelors - Preferred

EXPERIENCE:3-5 years of customer service experience - Required

5 years of customer service experience, - referred
