Human Resources Director

BECKER COUNTY Detroit Lakes, MN

Job Summary: The Human Resources Director is responsible for the total human resources effort, managing and coordinating all human resource management functions in the County; assumes responsibility for the application of personnel policies, programs, and activities, including but not limited to labor relations, compensation, classification, recruitment and hiring, employee benefits, staff training and development, and all other personnel rules and regulations applying to County employees.

Position Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree; a minimum three-years experience in human resources, labor relations, or related field; two-years work experience in Microsoft word and excel. Position does require some travel to meet with other county departments and trainings.

Preferred Certifications: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, and/or SPHR

Ideal Candidate in addition to the minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Management Labor Relations, Business Administration, Public Administration, and experience in public sector human resource
  • Self-motivated, strong problem solver self-directed in learning the various rules and regulations that impact personnel in the public sector
  • Experience and/or ability to bring recommendations forward that promote efficiency and effectiveness but also adhere to directives in supportive and positive fashion.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and non-verbal and the ability to adapt communication style as needed for audience.
  • Ability to promote positive employee relations and a team environment

Compensation and Benefits: Starting annual salary range $93,288.00. Total annual salary range $93,288 - $121,721 in 2025 COLA 3.5% and 2026 COLA 3.5%. This position is eligible for a wide range of competitive benefits, including state pension plan, vacation time, sick time, personal and holiday leave time. Other benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance; Health Savings and Flexible Spending accounts; Short-Term Disability; Supplemental Accident, Hospital, and Critical Illness plans; and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The County contributes monthly health benefits to aide in the rising of insurance costs with the contribution rate evaluated annually. Additionally, employees have the option to take part of this $749.14 contribution as cash in lieu of benefits.
