Position Objectives
Knowledgably write and edit persuasive fundraising copy in a fast-paced environment while guiding other members of the communications writing team on best practices and fostering the creation of successful communication strategies across direct response, major giving, and other program areas.
Primary Responsibilities And Duties
Write fundraising and membership copy across a diverse range of channels and animal rights programs exercising creativity, originality, and independent judgment
Edit appeals, reports, scripts, and other copy materials to ensure the best possible engagement and fundraising results
Foster the development of other writing staff through direct, thoughtful feedback on the work they produce
Manage writing team priorities with support from the department director and project manager
Assume a leadership role in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies for multiple teams across the PETA Foundation and its international entities
Oversee the creation of internal reports to help staff in their work with donors and prospects
Prepare scripts for fundraising events, advocacy videos, and online advertising
Ensure factual accuracy and the incorporation of "best fundraising practices" across copy created and edited
Work closely with key development department staff members to identify, execute and oversee fundraising themes and priorities
Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience
Three years of professional writing experience with a strong portfolio of written and edited work
Experience in a nonprofit or fundraising environment preferred
Excellent editing, research, and proofreading skills
Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns of PETA and its international entities
Ability to think strategically and creatively to achieve objectives
Proven ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
Proven ability to meet deadlines while under pressure
Proven ability to take initiative and follow through
Commitment to the objectives of the organization
The salary range for this position is $44,269.59-$67,724.80 annually. The ultimate salary within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
