SUMMARY

Designs and/or reviews and comments on moderately complex designs for electrical systems involving MARTA facilities construction, expansion of current sites, retrofitting, and additions and ensures that electrical designs adhere to MARTA design criteria and all applicable codes and standards. Investigates, identifies, and develops solutions to improve the safety, reliability, maintainability, and performance of all rail related equipment. These electrical systems include, but are not limited to electrical power, lightning protection, communications, fire alarm, lighting, and others. Proficiency in using AutoCAD necessary.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares drawings and specifications for complete electrical power, lighting, and communications, and traction power systems for new facilities construction, current facilities expansions, additions, and retrofits.

Provides technical support and assistance during construction and in the maintenance of equipment, system design, redesign, and retrofit necessary to correct existing equipment or system deficiencies or achieve state-of-the-art standards.

Implements established procedures to ensure the proper maintenance, testing, and installation of systems and equipment.

Monitors the preparation of drawings and specifications and construction related activities of the General Engineering Consultant on new facilities construction and existing facilities expansions, additions, and retrofits. Reviews drawings and specifications for new facilities and retrofits of existing facilities that are prepared by other outside consultants.

Prepares and updates design criteria, drawings, schematics, diagrams, and manuals for MARTA contracts and equipment. Reviews changes to these criteria and assures that approved changes are incorporated into the documents.

Evaluates contractors' performance/compliance with all contract requirements and specifications. Reviews and evaluates new proposals/specifications for applicability to the MARTA systems.

Performs other related duties as assigned.



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of four years of experience in electrical design, and construction of commercial buildings and/or transit facilities. Power systems design experience highly desirable. Highly effective verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills required. Directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of educational requirement.



SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to respond to critical/emergency situations on a 24-hour per day basis.
