The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the design, overall operation and improvement of the organizations medication management system. Ensures that the pharmacy provides effective and efficient services that meet all legal accreditation and certification requirements and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization. Is administratively responsible for all phases of pharmacy practice in all areas where medications are stored or used. Education
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. PharmD. preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registry
Illinois license to practice pharmacy.
Experience
Two years of experience in a supervisory position in the management of technical and human resources in a department of equal or more extensive resources.

Ability to manage a diverse workforce.
Responsibilities
Assures responsibility for the administration, supervision, coordination and organization of all elements of the services of the Department of Pharmacy.
Develops policies and procedures that promote cost effective, appropriate, and safe medication use.
Assures institutional compliance with all state and federal laws and applicable to pharmacy and drug control.
Assumes responsibility for prompt and accurate dispensing of medications.

Represents pharmacy service by personal participation and/or representation on various medical staff committees and other organizational committees.
Develops the agenda for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee and coordinates the development of background materials for the evaluation of drugs and policies by the committee as well as appropriate implementation of policy throughout the organization.
Maintains effective working relationships with nursing staff and physicians through collaboration and consultation
Prepares and submits department budget within established hospital administrative guidelines
Administers the process relating to purchasing, invoices, inventory, charging and coding within area of responsibility
Supports the performance appraisal system and provides feedback to subordinates
Develops and assures conformance by all departmental personnel to hospital and departmental standards, policies and procedures
Encourages personnel to pursue relevant educational opportunities to increase the level of competency and assure that the minimum requirements are met through regular performance review
Responsible either personally, or through delegation, for ensuring the orientation and in-services training and continuing education of all persons in the department. Ensures that applicable continue education records and licensure are maintained.
Develops department goals and objectives.
Establishes and ensures proper maintenance of ongoing recordkeeping as required by law and other governing and/or accrediting bodies.
Prepares and dispenses medications and prescriptions in accordance with and conforming to any legal requirements pertaining to their dispensing
Insures proper maintenance of records as required by law and other governing and/or accrediting bodies.
Maintains proper and adequate supplies of pharmaceuticals in accordance with the needs of the hospital and good business standards.
Provides in service training to help keep personnel informed in the areas of pharmacy service.
Represents the pharmacy service on such committees as deemed necessary.
Completes required Corporate Compliance training hours as dictated by regulatory organizations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
