Director of Operations

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Operations (Manufacturing) will have responsibility for operations at the Chairmans Foods manufacturing locations, with an emphasis on performance, employee safety, food quality and environmental compliance. The Director will monitor a variety of operations data, identify problems or inefficiencies, and work with Plant Managers to improve plant performance. This role will require collaborating cross-functionally and with all Operations teams, including Engineering, Quality, Safety and Continuous Improvement.


Responsibilities:

  • Manages operating activities and ensures products are manufactured and packaged on schedule, within quality standards and meeting cost objectives.
  • Provides leadership and support for Plant Managers in day-to-day operations, as well as any special projects and audits.
  • Establishes best practices with strong emphasis on production efficiencies, safety, compliance and asset utilization.
  • Supports strategic goals through effective and efficient project management for ongoing delivery of operations/production activities and processes.
  • Works with Plant Managers and HR to develop staffing proposals for the fiscal year and monitor direct/indirect labor.
  • Works with Director of Engineering to make budgetary recommendations regarding capital expenditures needed to efficiently produce and meet corporate goals.
  • Monitors all operational training and ensures all compliance training is met.
  • Drives a culture that upholds our mission, vision and values.
  • Ensures appropriate SOPs are developed, executed and maintained for all aspects of our business.
  • Is responsible for meeting all regulatory requirements and rules.
  • Cooperates in a cross-functional manner as a change agent with all departments within the Company.
  • Leads by example, including ensuring compliance with all company policies, standards, specifications, and national suppliers.
  • Engages in the typical responsibilities of a director, including planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating.
  • Performs other duties as required for success.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Food Science, Industrial Management or related field of study is preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel 50% of the time between three production plants. May require relocation.
  • Twelve (12 ) years of manufacturing and operations experience, as well as management experience.
  • Experience in FDA/USDA monitored environments and/or SQF experience preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory laws and responsibilities as they pertain to Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Broad knowledge of standards of manufacturing technology, equipment, food safety, management, finance and employee relations.
  • Proficient understanding of budgeting and cost control.
  • Proven track record of improved results in the areas of quality, safety, service and cost.
  • Knowledge of safety, and Workers Compensation.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and quick problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change.
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Ability to select, coach, develop, and engage all levels of the operation.
