Job Description:

Summary

Responsible for the planning, implementation, and quality of instructional design and academic training to support faculty and students. Manages the instructional design, development projects, and the design team. Provides leadership for accreditation, accessibility, compliance, and online learning-related considerations.

Essential Functions

  • Manages personnel and daily Instructional Design & Learning Excellence departmental operations supporting the instructional design and technology needs of the Centers for Learning Excellence (CLE)s, Online Learning and Academic Technology (OLAT), Academic Professional Development/Faculty Development Team
  • Guides the Instructional Design & Learning Excellence team in supporting faculty instructional needs on each campus and collegewide projects (as needed)
  • Serves as Budget Unit Leader for the Instructional Design & Learning Excellence departmental budget, including budget development, preparation, spending, and tracking
  • Partners with the AVP Academic Professional Development, Instructional Design & Online Learning; Executive Director, OLAT; and Director of Faculty Development to establish and execute division and departmental strategy, goals, and priorities
  • Manages assigned staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluation
  • Manages the creation and upkeep of benchmarking quality courses
  • Oversees all aspects of the quality of the course/template creation process
  • Fosters collaboration among disciplines, works with faculty, staff, and administrators college-wide to achieve a shared vision for the College
  • Provides leadership to staff in the design, development, and delivery of technology-mediated learning
  • Collaborates with Faculty Development in the planning and delivery of faculty training
  • Collaborates with Online Learning and Academic Technology (OLAT) to support the development and implementation of college-wide Online Learning & Academic Technology initiatives
  • Collaborates with Online Learning and Academic Technology (OLAT) to conduct research, testing, and implementation of new and emerging technologies related to academic and instructional needs
  • Researches and stays current on contemporary issues relating to course development and quality assurance of technology-mediated learning, including copyright/intellectual property, course design standards, and accessibility
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Minimum of six years of demonstrated significant operations, process, and project management experience in a role related to instructional design, technology, and training
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, training, developing, scheduling, supervising, and managing the work performance of others
  • Demonstrated experience and familiarity with D2L’s Brightspace, Blackboard Learn or other Learning Management Systems
  • Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing, and monitoring a business area’s budget
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem-solving methods in adaptive situations

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of online accessibility, and the ability to use in complex, difficult, and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus and needs

  • Demonstrated advanced project management skills
  • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to facilitate and garner top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Master’s Degree or higher in educational technology, instructional technology, instructional design, or education
  • Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation of innovative learning models
  • Demonstrated experience working in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated online teaching experience at the college level
  • Leadership and participation in national groups in online learning (Educause, WCET, OLC, etc.)

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;

However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
