Actively participate in strategic planning of the region’s initiatives focused on maximizing broker/agent engagement, revenue and profitability by driving customer loyalty. Leverage company brand to build awareness of Markel as a world-class insurance company. Work with regional producers to ensure Markel wholesale is relevant within their organization and uncover additional opportunities to grow our business. As a complement to existing relationships across Markel, this position works to steward and cultivate the regions partner relationships with the overriding goal to increase profitable premium and market penetration within the region. Develop and implement marketing activities to build the reputation of Markel’s brand. Counsel underwriting teams in the regions on development and implementation of major marketing initiatives. Maintain high visibility with regional producers and regional management and underwriting teams. This role requires employees to drive on a regular basis. Employees in this position are expected to maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV Motor Vehicle Record which will be pulled on an annual basis for verification.


What you'll be doing:

Producer Liaison

  • Build and maintain relationships with Markel Specialty regional business development, underwriters, management team and product line leaders.
  • Serve as liaison to facilitate exceptional communications and interaction between and among regional management, underwriters and assigned agents.
  • Coordinate all assigned agency visits with the regional management team, marketing managers and underwriters to ensure an effective marketing presence.
  • Actively search for opportunities to develop business for existing and new products with assigned agents.


Market Strategist

  • Create, coordinate and execute marketing strategies with the regional underwriters, marketing manager, and management team that will focus on achieving underwriting profit and growth
  • Provide consistent and effective communication to management regarding sales and marketing progress, forecasts and results
  • Research and analyze the needs and trends of the wholesale non-admitted marketplace to ensure our relevance within assigned wholesale brokers.
  • Increase visibility and brand awareness of Markel.
  • Promote cross marketing and renewal retention with assigned brokers.
  • Enjoy industry reconnaissance.


What we're looking for:

  • 5 years of business development/marketing/underwriting experience working with Markel’s non-admitted wholesale broker population.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills required;
  • First hand understanding of team based decision making in an entrepreneurial environment required;
  • Strong relationship development and negotiation skills required;
  • US Work Authorization required. Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future.
