Art Department Adjunct Faculty

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Chair of the SOCA Department of Art, adjunct faculty receive a contract or letter stating adjunct employment with a primary responsibility in teaching. Faculty members assess, plan, implement and evaluate instruction for students in studio and/or classroom settings in coordination with established course and program objectives.

The need for new adjuncts and the courses available varies from semester to semester depending on enrollment. Openings may or may not be available each semester.

Teaching opportunities in the following areas may be available for adjunct instructors in the School of Creative Arts:

  • Studio Art
  • Graphic Design
  • Animation
  • Art Education
  • Pre-Art Therapy
  • Art History
  • Museum Studies

Major Responsibilities/Activities

  • Adheres to all applicable university academic and employment policies identified in the Employee and Faculty handbooks and academic catalogs
  • Respects the moral and religious beliefs of the university and students; uses discretion when expressing personal beliefs and views
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or designated Program Director

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Visual Art (Studio Art, Graphic Design, Animation, Art Education, Pre-Art Therapy) Adjunct:
  • Master of Fine Arts or equivalent graduate degree required.
  • Art History/Museum Studies Adjunct:
  • Doctorate in Art History or equivalent Doctoral degree; relevant graduate degree with established professional experience in field of study considered

Experience

  • Proven teaching and/or professional experience within field of study.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods and evaluation technique and use of technology relevant to visual art professional practices utilized in higher education in a classroom setting.
  • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents.
