You must be a Certified Medical Assistant or a Certified Phlebotomist to apply.

(The regular shift for this role is from 5:30 PM to 2:00 AM)

The role of an HIV Testing Counselor is vital to helping AHF with our mission to provide compassionate and informing care to our clients. Within their duties of HIV testing, this position has the opportunity to engage in outreach within the community and educate those at risk. Caring, personable and relatable counselors enhance the probability of clients returning for services in the future.

Providing the best possible care and ensuring clients are well-informed to protect themselves in the future.

The HIV Testing Counselor can help the Public Health Department (PHD) team within AHF further develop by contributing a team centered attitude and new outreach strategies. In addition, giving feedback to their manager about how service could be improved will allow the team member to enhance their contribution.

The Testing Counselor adds consistent value to the PHD Team by adapting to various situations with ease and by being flexible.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer/Software Skills & Abilities

Should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret guidelines such as safety rules, universal precautions, operating and maintenance instructions, and program manuals. Ability to document extensive reports accurately. Ability to speak effectively in a group setting.

All offers will be contingent on the candidate completing the HIV 1 Certification within 90 days.

Other Skills & Abilities/Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Skill in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice.
  • Must be available to work on weekday, evenings, and weekends including late hours.
  • Must have reliable transportation with liability insurance.
  • Must be able to drive to different testing sites.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to drive a 28ft van.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Current 500/501 HIV Testing Counselor Certification.

Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance in state of employment

Current Certification in Phlebotomy preferred.
