Software Engineering Director

Fourth are looking for an experienced and passionate Software Engineering Director to lead our UK productEngineering teams. Although this is not a hands-on coding position; you will have a solid background in software development and full SDLC having worked as a developer, people and development manager in the past. The successful candidate will

have a mix of reporting lines, for the most part managers, but also at least one team and some senior individual contributors.

Whilst mentoring and supporting the development teams you will also be responsible for driving and implementing longer term strategic initiatives across not just UK Engineeringbut also ROW.

The Software Engineering Director will work very closely with the experienced development managers to ensure the technical decisions proposed by teams are viable and contribute to the longer-term strategy, you willcontribute ideas and share technical views. These are well structured, Agile teams consisting of both Developers and Testers, working alongside a Scrum Masters and Product Owners. It is key the teams run optimally, and that each member knows what they are trying todo and have the resources to achieve.

This role will report directly to the VP of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for contributing to and managing strategic initiatives across global development teams alongside your role as the engineering leader for the UK development teams.

The role . . .

• Manage and support the UK engineering teams
• Work closely with the engineering managers to ensure the best technicaldecision are taken
• Drive strategic initiatives throughout engineering
• Ensure that training and personal development plan of software engineering teams are followed
• Evaluate team performance
• Present practical input for strategic technology decisions
• Support preparation of technology roadmaps across the region
• Comply with all professional departmental as well asc ompany best practices
  
  
  

The ideal candidate . . .

• Prior experience at manager level of a software development team(s) with a background in software development
• Experience in a people manager role with a track record of managing high performing teams
• Effective communicator & negotiator - experienced speaking to all levels of technical & business stakeholders up to Board level
• Being detail orientated with excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Experience working within an Agile/Scrum environment
• Being comfortable in taking part in technical discussions, contributing to technical or architectural decisions around the direction of a product
