This post is for an experienced manager to lead operations and engagement for SPRITE , the Security, Privacy, Identity and Trust Engagement NetworkPlus, funded until September 2027 by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (grant reference EP/W020408/1).
The Project Manager role requires an experience and dynamic individual, with experience of project and operational management of large-scale collaborative networks and research projects. The successful candidate will have excellent organisational, planning and communication skills to manage all operational aspects of SPRITE activities, ensuring that the Network delivers its objectives. They will lead a small professional services delivery team of three administrative colleagues and will work closely with colleagues at all levels across the University of Manchester and beyond to ensure efficient delivery of Network objectives.
Working alongside the Director of SPRITE , the Project Manager will play a leading role in development of the NetworkPlus, scoping and delivering new activities. They will be responsible for ensuring efficient use of resources (including budgeting, procurement, and travel), delivering a busy programme of meetings and other activities, and administering a research fund of around £1.5 million.
The Project Manager will need to draw on specialist expertise and skills to: i) develop and implement working practices to govern SPRITE activities; ii) coordinate the financial and legal administration of project resources across Partners and members; iii) ensure strong engagement with and between the Management Team, Project Partners, Expert Fellows and Members.

SPRITE is funded by EPSRC until 2027, delivering research and engagement activities relating to digital trust, identity, privacy and security (TIPS). The NetworkPlus is led by a Management Team consisting of the Principal Investigator, Professor Mark Elliot, with co-investigators Professor Sakir Sezer (Queen’s University Belfast), Professor Vladimiro Sassone (University of Southampton), Dr Hamed Haddadi (Imperial College London), Professor Stacey Conchie (Lancaster University), the Expert Fellows Coordinator – Professor Emma Barrett (University of Manchester) and the Head of Operations and Engagement. The Management Team is supported by a small administrative team that supports the delivery of events, administration of a research fund, and marketing and communications.
SPRITE is primarily a vehicle for collaboration, supporting engagement between people involved in research, practice, and policy relevant to TIPS. Since its launch in late 2019, SPRITE has built an active community of around 1000 members from across academia, industry, government and third sector and recruited 24 Project Partners from industry, government, law enforcement, and third sector stakeholders. We have delivered over 40 activities so far, including funding calls (we have funded 17 research projects), community-building workshops, showcase events and a programme of activities for early career researchers.
