Purpose Of The Position

The Product Development group supports all activities required to develop, optimize and scale up a stable semi-solid (cream, lotion, ointment, gel) / liquid (topical, oral, sub-lingual, nasal spray) formulation to make it suitable for commercial production. The PD Assistant within this group is responsible for supporting formulation/analytical development, coordinating activities, maintaining PD documentation, record keeping, and facilitating laboratory operations.

Specific Responsbilities

  • Responsible for working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures; properly uses personal protection and safety equipment as required by CPL; reports any injury or illness immediately and notifies CPL of any hazards, unsafe acts, or conditions in the workplace.
  • Promotes and exemplifies the CPL culture, ensuring an exceptional customer experience by demonstrating CPL's core values.
  • Weighing the raw materials & API as needed in the GMP and non-GMP areas.
  • Properly dispose of expired materials, reagents, solvents, and lab waste in appropriate containers and dispose of empty bottles in the recycling bins according to health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Learning and conducting daily calibration for balances and pH meters.
  • Performing laboratory cleaning and minor maintenance on a routine basis.
  • Maintaining the laboratory and supply storage areas in a clean and organized state according to the SOPs.
  • Ensuring the glassware is washed, dried, and stored according to the SOP.
  • Assists project leaders as the customer's point of contact and facilitates any necessary internal actions required to ensure that customers' deliverables are fulfilled completely, correctly, and on time.
  • Performing instrument maintenance and troubleshooting and contacting external vendors for service as required.
  • Purchasing for the PDS department.
  • Maintaining lab supplies and replenishing as required.
  • Performing monthly safety checks and representing PDS on the safety committee.
  • Maintaining the controlled samples log, disposing of control samples and providing annual reports on control samples inventory.
  • Transporting materials between Danbro and Meadowpine campuses.
  • Practicing work with a team to become a good team player
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualitifcations

  • Minimum a college diploma in Chemistry with a minimum of 9-12 months of experience working in a lab is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Excel is an asset.
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple work assignments.
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competencies in CPL's core values of Excellence, Rigor, Ownership, Integrity and Agility.
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt, respond quickly and manage change in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Lab environment.
  • Receiving, inventorying, labeling, and disposing of materials requires some reaching/bending and lifting (up to 20Kg).
  • Flexibility in hours of work to address emergency issues /related activities outside of the normal workday
  • May be required to manually handle heavy cases and drums of materials on and off skids without mechanical assistance.
  • Pulling, pushing, and pumping with a manual pump truck, heavy skids.
  • Using a hand truck to move pressurized gas cylinder.
  • Confined space entry may be required.
