Job Title: Staff Geologist/Engineer – Birmingham, AL

Reports to: Group Manager/Program Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Bhate Environmental Associates, Inc. (www.bhate.com) has an opportunity available for a full-time Staff Geologist/Engineer position available in our Birmingham office.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform field related activities for Phase I/II ESA, site investigations, including logging soils, air monitoring during investigation and remediation activities, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, collection of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis, and collection of soil for physical testing. PFAS sampling experience is desirable.
  • Evaluate and compile soil, groundwater, and air analytical data, and develop soil and groundwater sampling plans.
  • Compile and present proposal and report writing for environmental based findings.
  • Oversee laboratory analysis that is appropriate to the proper identification and evaluation of field samples such as, water, soil, and bedrock.
  • Design and optimization of environmental remediation systems, working with Project Managers on budget and schedule as it relates to remedial investigation and action implementation.
  • Working knowledge of physical and in situ remedies, including oversight of system installations and/or in situ injections.
  • Experience with CERCLA and RCRA processes, and preparation of related documents.
  • Engineering support of investigations, mitigation, and treatment/removal of PFAS from environmental media.
  • Evaluate current systems and design innovative ways to improve or replace the existing systems or processes
  • Travel and field work may be required on various projects in the US and internationally, with travel up to 25% of the time with field mobilizations averaging two weeks.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Environmental/Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years with environmental characterization or remediation work.
  • Team leadership and management skills with attention to; quality, time management, efficiency, and mentoring.
  • Advanced technical writing skills.
  • Ability to log soil using the Unified Soil Classification System.
  • A general understanding of hydrogeology.
  • Familiarity with groundwater and soil sampling techniques.
  • Experience working with the Federal Government, e.g., DoD, EPA, or USACE
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including technical writing and Microsoft office software.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of environmental sampling, boring logging, O&M of remediation systems, groundwater monitoring wells placement and installation, and other environmental activities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or issues simultaneously.

Additional Preferred Qualification:

  • Capable of performing physical field work.
  • Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer License
  • Must be capable of accessing Department of Defense properties based upon a background check.
  • Must have or be able to obtain OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training, CPR and Adult First Aid.
  • Ideally candidate is in Birmingham area
