Mission

Job Purpose

Completes comprehensive Psychological Evaluations on juveniles. Reports should provide thorough descriptions of the juveniles' strengths and needs and should be completed according to deadlines.

Job Duties

Completes psychosocial evaluations on youth and submits evaluations to supervision in a timely manner.

Makes referrals to, and consults with, other DJJ staff (e.g., nurses, psychiatrists, teachers, and security officers) about juveniles with particular needs.

Provides crisis intervention services on a rotating basis with other clinicians.

Attends interagency staffing and mandatory trainings and meetings

Performs Other Related Job Duties As Assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements

A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field and professional experience in a mental health, human service or social service program.

Additional Requirements

Applicants for this position should have thorough knowledge of current psychological theory/practice and psychological evaluation/assessment techniques with children/adolescents/families, as well as some knowledge of forensic psychological issues in Family Court.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to work with and communicate effectively with youth, families, staff, and other entities.

This position includes consultation with and supervision by a Licensed Supervising Psychologist. All reports are supervised, and feedback is provided on each. There is also an annual performance review.

On call duties are required on a rotating basis with other clinical staff.

Must be able to work in a secure facility setting and have the confidence/endurance to work in a sometimes-hostile work environment.

Must be able to walk, lift 25 lbs., communicate both orally and written; be able to work varied hours; and be able to work around incarcerated youth.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a master's degree in psychology from a designated program in psychology.
