The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) is the sole nonprofit organization created by President Reagan charged with continuing his legacy and advancing his principles –individual liberty, economic opportunity, freedom and democracy, peace through strength, and national pride. The Foundation is a non-partisan organization which sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA, the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, The Air Force One Pavilion, the award-winning Reagan Leadership Academy, and the Reagan Institute, which carries out the Foundation’s mission in Washington, D.C. The Reagan Library houses over 55 million pages of Gubernatorial, Presidential and personal papers and over 60,000 gifts and artifacts chronicling the lives of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. Position Available

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) is seeking a Director of Development (DoD). Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the DoD will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic development plan to substantially increase major and planned gifts from individuals as well as corporate and foundation revenue in the Eastern U.S. The DoD will be instrumental in donor relations and cultivating strategic relationships to ensure RRPFI’s long-term financial sustainability and growth. This position will be based out of the Foundation’s offices in Washington, DC. Consideration may be made for exceptional candidates who are remotely based, but will be required to travel regularly to meet with and engage donors across the Eastern U.S. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to other duties that may be assigned in the future, the DoD will have the following responsibilities:

 

Major and Planned Gifts (90%):

·        Work closely with the CDO, developing, implementing, and managing on an ongoing basis a proactive and effective major and planned gifts strategy and program including all activities relating to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual major and planned gift prospects in the Eastern U.S.

·        Personally manage and grow a portfolio (approximately 125-150) of major and planned gift prospects in the five to seven figure range (minimum of $25,000); closing 20 gifts annually, 5-6 per quarter, with an emphasis on cash gifts and irrevocable estate pledges.

·        Develop a strategy and implementation program to expand significantly the prospect pool utilizing effective donor identification and acquisition techniques.

·        Design and write thoughtful cases for support and detailed donor proposals for major and planned gifts donors.

·        Identify, cultivate and solicit corporate and foundation partners to support RRPFI’s mission. 

·        Meet with program staff and other departments to cultivate their role in development and activities and establish strong working relationships within the RRPFI community.

·        Maintain appropriate systems for donor tracking, activity monitoring, and metrics to ensure that cultivation and solicitation strategies are successfully implemented and goals are met. Provide regular reports and analysis to leadership to evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising efforts.

·        Represent the RRPFI at on-site and off-site events with donors and potential donors.

·        Participate in weekly prospect review meetings and brief CDO on prospect development.

 

General (10%):

  • Demonstrate behaviors in concert with the Foundation’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Adhere to the highest ethical standards and strict confidentiality policies in handling donor information. 
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships and communications with all Foundation constituencies.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Development team; attend department and all-staff meetings and events; support the organization’s overall fundraising efforts.

·        Assist with events and other programs and activities of the Board of Trustees, CEO and CDO relating to the mission and activities of the RRPFI.

·        Support the CDO and other Foundation leadership in the ongoing implementation of the RRPFI’s campaigns.

·        Assume responsibility for reaching assigned fundraising and activity goals (during specific campaign periods both the dollar amount and number of gifts will be adjusted to obtain the fundraising goal established by the Board of Trustees).

·        Participate in the preparation of and attending the Reagan National Defense Forum, held annually at the end of November/beginning of December at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California.

 

Qualifications

·        Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating and raising 6 and 7 figure individual, corporate and foundation gifts in a significant non-profit organization.

·        Passion for and alignment with President Reagan’s enduring principles, including limited government, individual liberty, economic opportunity, freedom and democracy, peace through strength, civility, and national pride.

·        Demonstrated leadership ability to create and nurture long-term relationships with donors and prospects and to develop appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies for each.

·        A goal-oriented manager of the solicitation and cultivation process with strong organizational skills.

·        A strategic thinker who has demonstrated resourcefulness in working collaboratively in a team environment with various constituencies.

·        Ability to articulate the case for support (orally and in writing), and to interact with RRPFI leadership, donors and prospects at the highest level.

·        Ability and willingness to travel at least 30 percent of the time. Nights and weekends as necessary.

·        Track record of success in capital campaigns, with understanding of planned giving preferred.

·        Experience building relationships with conservative donors a plus.

·        Understanding of and hands on experience with donor CRM and database moves management systems – experience with Salesforce platform a plus. 

·        Bachelor’s degree required.
