Summary

SMT 216 Introduction to Sport Management is an introductory course that provides students with an overview of the field. This course will be taught as part of the Summer Scholars program this summer.

Summer Scholars is a three-week residential program designed specifically for rising high school juniors and seniors to immerse themselves intellectually and socially in a chosen topic as a precursor to their upcoming college experience.

Summer Scholars - 3 weeks

Classes start on July 8th and run through July 26 th

Classes are in person on Monday - Thursday from 1pm - 4pm online work

Responsibilities Include

  • Teach SMT 216 Introduction to Sport Management as an in-person course.
  • Engage with all responsibilities associated with teaching: content preparation, grading, office hours, student engagement, academic assessment, etc.
  • Meet with Program Director periodically to discuss content, student progress, challenges, etc.
  • Ability to teach college level material to high school students.

Qualifications

Qualified Candidates Must Possess:

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Sport Management or a related field.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of topics in sport management such as sport marketing, sport administration, global sport management, sport event planning, facilities management, etc.
  • Evidence of prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level preferred.
  • Ability to engage students through interactive and engaging activities and discussions.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom learning environment in keeping with the University's commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
  • Ability to utilize technology necessary for teaching including but not limited to: Office 365, Moodle, library, and other online resources.
  • Ability to uphold the university’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in noise, odors, etc.
  • May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Ability to work in a standard office setting.
  • Ability to perform all duties necessary for classroom instruction .
