EXPLO’s summer programs run this summer from June 30th to August 9th, 2024, with staff orientation beginning on June 22nd.

This Role Is Available At:

  • EXPLO Junior, for students in grades 4-7 at Regis College in Weston, MA.
  • EXPLO Intermediate, for students in grades 8-9 at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY.
  • EXPLO Pre-College, for students in grades 10-12 at Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA.

The Opportunity

Our team of nurses works with a population of students from around the United States and the world, as well as the staff members that live and work on campus. Nurses communicate with caregivers of students regarding their student’s wellbeing, consult with local pediatricians, and distribute daily medications to students.

Most registered nurse candidates should expect to work shifts totaling 30-45 hours per week, which may include some weekends and occasional overnights. We also have the option to hire nurses to work primarily evenings and weekends. Most shifts overlap so you can expect to regularly work alongside other registered nurses. We will schedule your hours before the summer and take your preferences into account.

Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care to students and staff at the Program.
  • Maintain medical records in accordance with EXPLO’s standard practices and applicable school/camp regulations.
  • Maintain electronic logs of student interactions in accordance with EXPLO’s standard practices and applicable regulations.
  • Communicate in a timely and professional fashion with caregivers regarding student health issues and medical care.
  • Communicate with local medical facilities and personnel to which students are referred to ensure adequate information exchange and care of students.
  • Work closely with the Office of Student Life to exchange necessary information about student health issues and communications with caregivers.
  • Work closely with all Summer Program offices to ensure that medications are properly administered to all students.
  • Work closely with all Summer Program offices to ensure that medications are properly packed for off-campus student field trips.
  • Travel quickly as needed to injured or ill students on campus with a travel medical bag to assess and triage students who are unable to walk to the Health Office.
  • Provide a healthy, safe, and welcoming Health Office environment for Summer Program students.
  • Provide supervision to students who may be required to stay overnight in the Health Office due to health or disciplinary reasons.

Nurses must be able to lift at least 15-20 pounds and be able to move and treat students quickly in an emergency if necessary.

About You

You’ve got:

  • A current nursing certification (Registered nurse, licensed practice nurse, APRN, licensed vocational nurse, certified school nurse, certified nurse assistant, or nurse practitioner) in the state of the program.
  • At least one year of professional registered nursing (RN, NP) experience.
  • The ability to commute to and from the program during the summer.

Ideally, You’ve Also Got:

  • Experience working with students in a camp or school setting.

Compensation Benefits

This is a seven week, seasonal position. Remote training for this role may begin as early as January 2024. In person training begins in mid-June 2024. Compensation for this role starts at $36/hour for Massachusetts positions and $43/hour for New York positions and scales based on experience.
