Research Technician I, Cancer Center

General Summary/ Overview Statement

A position is open for a full time Research Technician II at the MGH Cancer Center in the McClatchey laboratory. The McClatchey lab deploys mouse and bioengineered 2D and 3D cell culture models to understand how organization of the cell surface governs tissue morphogenesis and contributes to tumor development, particularly in the liver and nervous system. We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, and organized individual to support the research endeavors of this group. Experience with mouse husbandry is desired but training can be provided.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

EXAMPLES TO INCLUDE SPECIFIC TO THE LAB:

Responsible for managing efforts to study the morphogenesis of liver and nervous system lesions and tumors in mouse models and cell culture.

Duties Include

  • Management of mouse colony using Transnetyx software.
  • Treatment of mice with clinically active cancer drugs.
  • Isolation, fixation, and staining of mouse tissues.
  • Carrying out complementary 2D and 3D cell culture-based analyses.
  • Conducting molecular biology experiments.
  • Troubleshooting of laboratory experiments and protocols
  • Use of multiple imaging platforms, including wide field and confocal microscopes and software to carry out image analysis.
  • Synthesis and interpretation of data obtained from laboratory experiments, graphs and other data collection methods in order to develop new investigative techniques and determine appropriate future research directions.
  • Use of laboratory notebook and preparation of written reports on status of research, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions.
  • Collaborates with supervisor in writing and editing material for publication and may appear as principal or secondary author on publications
  • Ordering and managing supplies, maintaining supply logs, general lab duties.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education

  • Bachelors degree in biology or physical science with substantial laboratory exposure to molecular biology, cell biology, and/or microbiology. .

Experience

  • Minimum of one year experience in a directly related laboratory setting.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if Applicable)

  • None but opportunity to assist in supervising new technicians and students exists.
