Job Summary

The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for planning and tracking preventative maintenance and inspection schedules for each department. In this capacity they will provide input to the Asset Management team in developing, configuring, and rolling out new PM schedules, assist department staff with using the EAMS to execute preventative maintenance, and assist in managing ROW access, creating schedules, and other documentation as needed. In addition, the Maintenance Manager will assist in planning and scheduling corrective maintenance by leading weekly work planning meetings, documenting plans, and assisting with coordination required to execute corrective maintenance work.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead weekly work planning meetings to discuss corrective and preventative maintenance plans
  • Support E&M leadership team in tracking progress against maintenance plans and identifying and resolving issues to ensure efficient and effective maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate with Asset Management to roll out new preventative maintenance and inspection schedules and new corrective maintenance business processes.
  • Facilitate reviews of EAMS data prior to loading data into the Asset Management system, assist in gathering asset information, and prioritize asset data gathering efforts.
  • Assist department staff in managing and documenting maintenance activities in the EAMS.
  • Act as the primary department representative supporting the rollout and of the asset management system including providing input on new business processes, training, and implementation support.
  • Assist with development of department level procedures.
  • Support E&M instructors in integrating EAMS processes into training.
  • Work with analytics team to develop new maintenance reports, improve existing reports, and support the use of reporting in standard business processes through E&M.
  • Analyze maintenance related reports/dashboards
  • Prepare maintenance reports and correspondence.
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports, status reports, budgets and charts reflecting the status of project activities.
  • Participate in or lead weekly team meetings, maintain action logs, coordinate project activities across multiple teams/departments.
  • Prepares activity related correspondence.
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies, events, and/or transport crews or equipment as needed.
  • Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees
  • Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Antiharassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.


Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree, preferably engineering or related engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance management, asset management, maintenance planning, or infrastructure maintenance, preferably in transit or infrastructure.
  • One (1) year supervisory/lead experience.
  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, time management, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Effectively communicate with regulatory agencies, community organizations and others on technical and sensitive matters; have excellent customer service, conflict resolution, negotiation, presentation, communication and writing skills
  • Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • The ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Database applications.
  • The ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check; background screenings, and the MBTA's medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
  • Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting, including overall employment, job performance, discipline and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection)


Substitutions Include

  • A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
  • A Master’s degree in a related subject substitute for two (2) years of general experience.
  • A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience


Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experience using a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system), preferably an enterprise asset management system (e.g., Trapeze, Maximo, Infor, etc.).
  • Experience with track, power, or signal infrastructure maintenance
  • Experience developing and delivering training in an industrial setting (or similar)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with urgent deadlines. Great time management.
  • Strong project management, analytical, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skill.

  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
