Strong communications skills, both oral and written 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 represents priority rankings, where 1 is highest priority and 5 is lowest priority of those ranked Software MS Office Suite Graphpad Prism Field of Study Miscellaneous Biology Molecular Biology Genetics Biochemical Sciences Statement of Work Details Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life Study basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and function Identify, classify, and study structure, behaviour, ecology, physiology, nutrition, culture, and distribution of plant and animal species Plan and conduct biological research programs Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures Monitor biological technicians and technologists and other scientists Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment Maintain laboratory equipment Analyze laboratory findings Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data Interpret research or operational data Record research or operational data Other Be responsible for the management of the Usdin Laboratory mouse colony. This work includes maintaining stocks of essential mouse strains coordinating the import of additional mice into the mouse colony and the export of mice/mouse embryos/mouse sperm to other facilities as needed ensuring the cryo-preservation and cryo-recovery of appropriate mouse lines develop appropriate genotyping assays for new mouse lines supervising the generation of new mouse lines both by CRISPR-mediated gene-editing of embryos and appropriate breeding strategies using pre-existing mutant mice overseeing CRISPR-mediated gene-editing of embryos and appropriate breeding strategies using pre-existing mutant mice overseeing the generation of embryonic stem cell and embryonic fibroblasts derived from these animals design and prepare animal study protocols and standard operation procedures (SOPs) Train new personnel in appropriate lab-approved SOPs including those in place for working with this animal colony Maintain and coordinate scientific equipment and make recommendations where necessary for the acquisition of new equipment Conduct research on the molecular mechanisms responsible for mutation and disease pathology in the Repeat Expansion Disorders, with a focus on the Fragile X-related disorder, Friedreich ataxia and GLC Deficiency. Perform research using genetic mouse and cellular models. Develop reagents, assays and methodology that contribute to the goal of moving all the projects in the laboratory forward. Maintain records of the experiments performed and the data acquired; update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases. Perform scientific literature searches. Prepare reports on the experimental design notes and progress of research programs, studies and trials. Prepare experimental results, including images, blots, expression data, etc. Coordinate multiple projects concurrently in progress. Collaborate with other research staff to ensure continuity of progress. Participate in the weekly inter-group lab meetings and present research update as appropriate Produce presentation slides for meetings Prepare manuscripts and submit research papers to peer-reviewed scientific journals Attend scientific meetings and represent the lab in poster and oral presentations as opportunity arises Contribute to collaborative projects not only with other members within the lab, but also with other laboratories as opportunity arises Organize daily laboratory notebook on experiments Prepare biweekly updates on on-going experiments and tasks and present progress reports on assigned projects at group meetings Assist with Postbac recruitment, onboarding, and training Coordinate and maintain LabArchives account at NIDDK #J-18808-Ljbffr
