The Manager, Laboratory reports directly to the Clinical Director, Laboratory Medicine and is responsible for leadership, planning and coordinating the daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory at one or more sites. An integral part of this role includes working collaboratively with the Laboratory Chief and Medical Director, Laboratory Leadership, Physician Leaders and the health care team throughout Lakeridge Health, to ensure the operational efficiency of the system and to provide quality patient care.

The leadership, strategic planning and management of human, financial and other resource matters (including patient and staff safety and supporting the Quality Management System) are paramount to the role.

The Manager will have a personal drive and the need to achieve results by setting goals, working to accomplish outcomes and maximizing the use of resources. The manager plays a pivotal role and supporting the communication between members of the multi-disciplinary teams, including external community partners and stakeholders.

As a leader, role model and coach, they must possess the ability to inspire others to work toward a common goal by engaging and empowering staff in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • ART or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Bachelor's Degree in Health Services Management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario;
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in a leadership roles
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical laboratory related management experience is preferred.
  • Core laboratory technical experience is required; Transfusion Medicine experience is considered an asset
  • Sound knowledge of medical laboratory operations and an awareness of new and emerging technologies and the impact they may have on the provision of laboratory services;
  • Proven management skills including financial, human resources, quality improvement, project management, change management, planning, and utilization;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the health care environment and current trends in laboratory systems and service delivery;
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership and ability to build and coach individuals and teams;
  • Proven knowledge of, and ability to work with Collective Agreements and Labour relations issues;
  • Proven knowledge of current regulatory and accreditation standards, as they relate to a complex multisite facility e.g. Accreditation Canada Diagnostics;
  • Proven effective organizational planning, assessment and evaluation skills;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills;
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;
  • Well-developed negotiation and conflict management/resolution skills;
  • Proven to be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal direction;
  • Recognized as someone known to possess integrity, courage, and promotes inclusion, diversity and equity;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team and be an accomplished change agent;
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork & Joy;
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environment safety and participation in regular in-service in this area; and
  • Proven attendance with the capability of maintaining this same standard.
