Student Success Specialist

This position coordinates learning support activities that improve student success as measured by learning gains, grades, retention and persistence. This position oversees testing services and tutoring/coaching programs offered at the Student Success Center, Monroe Campus, Rock County Jail, and other locations served by the College. This position monitors annual budgets, evaluates service delivery, and implements continuous improvement strategies to improve program performance.

Tutoring – Learning Center (40%)

  • Coordinate daily operations, including staff scheduling for the College’s tutoring program with other Learning Center support services such as the Writing and Math Centers.
  • Facilitate the hiring process and complete all necessary pre-employment paperwork for peer tutors and student workers.
  • Oversee peer tutors, holding regular 11 and team meetings, conducting session observations, and facilitating performance evaluations.
  • In alignment with the College Reading & Learning Association ITTPC standards, collaborate with appropriate College departments to provide onboarding and training for tutors.
  • Advance academic coaching practices as part of tutor programming.


Testing Center (40%)

  • Coordinate daily operations, including staff scheduling of the Testing Center and testing software programs.
  • Serve as Chief Test Examiner and maintain compliance with all College testing authorizations.
  • Coordinate and deliver necessary testing services and scheduling of staff coverage at all BTC locations and at Rock County Correctional Facilities.
  • Work with the GED/HSED Department of Public Instruction Administration to serve as a certified GED testing location.


Student Success Center Programming (20%)

  • Oversee daily functions of student retention and persistence programming, including testing and tutoring.
  • In collaboration with department leadership, develop and update support services, policies, and procedures in response to changing needs for academic support to advance student learning.
  • Research and identify learning support programming and instructional resources that reinforce academic concepts both remotely and on-site.
  • Develop outcomes and assessment processes for academic support programming to evaluate and inform future programming needs.
  • Schedule and publicize academic support programming and services.
  • Communicate Student Success Center policies/procedures to the campus and community.
  • Collect, report, and analyze data for grants and departmental needs, and make data-informed decisions about academic success programming.
  • Develop and monitor specific area budgetary needs.


Education & Experience Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in teaching, training, counseling or testing in a secondary/post-secondary educational setting. Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Experience working with peer to peer programs or testing programs preferred.
  • Meet WI Department of Public Instruction (DPI) requirements and Pearson Vue GED testing requirements, or meet as a condition of employment.
