Job Summary

Responsible for delivering the R&D process for cosmetic and personal care products. The role includes making samples of various cosmetics and personal care products in our R&D lab and maintaining thorough testing records.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Records equipment temperatures and calibrates equipment as needed and specified.
  • Evaluates preliminary and accelerated stability samples, as well as compatibility samples for pH, viscosity, color, odor and appearance and determines test results.
  • Maintains records of stability samples.
  • Evaluates customer products, redirects and reformulations and adjusts formulas accordingly in Product Vision.
  • Produces laboratory batch size formulas, divides the formulas into sample containers and labels the samples accordingly.
  • Coordinates with Account Management to pack and ship samples to customers.
  • Prepare Qualitative Ingredient Listings, Formula Approval Forms and Pricing Reports for sample submissions.
  • Pack and ship testing bulk to 3rd party testing labs.
  • Coordinates with 3rd party testing labs to get quotes, submit samples and receive results for testing bulk.
  • Assist with preparing third-party testing documentation for samples shipped to 3rd party testing labs.
  • Maintains detailed records and tracks all testing submitted to 3rd party testing labs.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate and organized formula documentation in product green folders.
  • Catalogs, restocks, and relabels laboratory raw materials.
  • Establishes working relationships with raw material suppliers to source new materials and obtain pricing and regulatory documentation.
  • Helps to transfer raw material pricing and regulatory information to Product Vision.
  • Attend raw material supplier meetings, as needed.
  • Catalogs and restocks laboratory packaging.
  • Catalogs and stocks R&D consumable supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed for this position.

Knowledge & Skills

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Lab experience and or chemistry background and schooling preferred.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks in a short amount of time.
  • Flexibility and ability to work and make decisions independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages).
  • Highly organized with a good attention to detail.

Education/Experience

  • BS in Chemistry or related sciences
  • 1-3 years of R&D Lab experience in cosmetic, food, pharma, or related industry
  • OTC/FDA experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English

Physical/Mental Demands

  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment around heavy machinery.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends as business needs require.
  • Regularly required to stand
